Depends a lot on the length. Werenski gets a new contract in 3 years. If he stays on his trajectory, he could be an 9-10M for 7 years type of contract at that point. Werenski bet on himself with a bridge deal, gets the chance at a big payday in a few years. Team gets him on a cheap deal for 3 years, plus he's an RFA at the end of it and they don't have to worry about UFA.

I'd rather sign Provorov to 6 years 7M today, than sign him to a 3x5M and open up that 9-10M possibility 3 years from now. Take the gamble on paying your #1 dman $7M during what's likely to be their best chance at winning a cup in the next 5-6 years. But doing that costs money. Have to pay him more than $5M because he's giving up the chance at the big pay day.

Im sure the Flyers management is hesitant to pay him the 7 million for 6 years after watching his sometimes awful play last season.If he had a good season last year he would be signed long term already.

Saw a tweet from Carchidi that $7mil/yr gets the deal done with Provorov? LOL if this deal is more than Werensky....

Up to this point in their respective careers Werensky has been the better player so i believe in the end he will be making more money if he keeps playing this good.

If the Flyers have less than 25 Points after 20 games I say promote a significant number of these prospects and sit people like Braun, Nisky, Raffl. Trade away JVR and Voracek.... Out with the old, in with the new...... what would we have to lose at that point ?

Sandstorm was great.
Myers was great.
Rubtsov was very good.
Farabee, Ratcliffe, and Frost were good.

I missed the game but i saw Myers play in the Worlds and he looked like he not only belonged with the best players in the world but also played just as good as anyone else out there. With only one spot open its going to be a good battle between Farabee Frost and Ratcliffe to get that spot.
