Caught a few more dinks and one nice one this past weekend. He was hiding out under a tree on an outside bend. Way up against the bank. I mean tight to that bank. Looked about 15-17" but I can't be certain. Used the "pro-move quick release" where I let him unhook himself, bounce off my boat and flop into the water. Still counts right? Used a Berkley Choppo again. Loving the Choppo for river smallies.

hey if touching the leader is good enough to count on salt
banging the boat is good on fresh

Only about two weeks or so left of being able to safely fish off a kayak.

I feel like I just got a terminal disease notice and I'm counting days.

Screw you cruel world! Screw you!

Local Yak-dealer (really, they aren't much better than heroin pushers) called and has two brand new 2019 Bonafide SS127 in discontinued colors (Hondo Orange and True Grit Sand) left over and on sale for $1199.25 each. Yeah. I'm adding two more yaks to the fleet tonight.

UUUUGGGGHHH!!!!!!!

Is it May yet?

FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!
No, seriously...is it may?

March is basically where I get pissed that it's not warm yet, hope that the lakes unfreeze and can't wait to golf and fish again.

Good news is that Michigan just changed it's licensing system and instead of having to wait until like march 30th, you can buy them march 1st now. So that's one step closer!

Also, I've discovered that having any kind of boat ends up just being a money pit. Not in a bad way but because you get so obsessed you just want to spend more money improving. I've already planned like 3 upgrades to mine. Haven't even considered a second yet lol.

though, given we never got a full on freeze this year in Michigan (at least SE Michigan) and we're expecting 40-50 degree weather in the 10 day forecast, things may open up really early this year.

Renewed my license just now, this reminded me and then I got excited for fishing.

Bust Out Another Thousand. Apparently true for small boats too haha. I sink so much money into these things it's insane. I just bought two YakAttack Omega Pro Rod Holders. $80. Just to hold my rods lol.

I still need to buy my license yet. PA just passed a groundbreaking law this year too. We no longer have to pin the license to an outer garment! Hooray for progress.

BTW. I only bought one of the SS127. I'm capable of self-control. Who would thunk it?

So. Bought the wife an SS127 (she went with the Sand color). I'm rocking a dead sexy Kaku Voodoo in orange crush camo and I gave the Key Lime Voodoo to my son. So... I just need to get two more kayaks for my girls and we'll all be on the water. I have too many kids. The wife thinks her vagina is a clown car. I can't believe they all came outa there.

If you get 4 how on earth are you transporting those lol?

I can't believe PA required you to pin the dang thing to your clothes. That's crazy as hell.

I might be transporting five lol.

Me - Voodoo 13' x 35"
Son - Voodoo 13' x 35"
Wife - SS127 12.7' x 34"
Daughter - Thinking 10' x 30"
Daughter - Thinking 10' x 30"

I might need a trailer. I've talked to a buddy of mine about welding like couple "T's" onto a trailer if I buy one so that I can haul them all. Not sure how big of a trailer I need though. I would love to figure out how to do this with a 4' x 8' but I might have to extend the tongue if I go that small? In the meantime, I "think" I can get them all in the bed of my truck. I'll need a bed extender now though since the Ram only has a 5.5' bed.

Most of the time it's just my son and I or the wife and I though. The girls won't go but a few times a year. I think. I don't want those crazy little women messing up my fishing. My 15 year old is a clown. I can't imagine being productive with her on the water with me.

Yeah we looked redonkulous with the license pinned to our hats all the time in PA. I can just throw a copy in my wallet and in my PFD and be done with it.

Don't look now but we have 9 days of 50-ish+ weather here in SE Michigan in the 15 day forecast. Given the lakes were open in Feb because of warm weather, they didn't have the large ice buildup that they have most years. I wouldn't be shocked if our waters were open and fishable here in the next couple weeks if the weather holds as predicted. I might be able to take the boat out early this year.

I'm still trying to decide if hypothermia is real or just something people lie about to ruin pre-spawn kayak fishing. The general rule is 120. The air and water temperature need to add up to 120 or it's a no go without like a thousand dollar space suit.

What are you looking for in a fishing kayak? <$600 is a tall order.
Yeah, I'm a novice here. I haven't done much pricing yet. And I'm bone-on-bone in my right knee so im not even sure if i can get in and out of one at tolerable pain levels.

Bone on bone right knee... sounds like a pedal drive is out of the question. Well, it's out of the question at anything under $1200 anyway.

Picking a kayak has a lot to do with your size. Your weight should be no more than 3/4 of the capacity. Height can negatively affect stability as well. Generally speaking for fishing you want at least 12' long and at least 33" wide. There are some exceptions.

I would look for a stable kayak with a high seat. Honestly, if buying new, those start at $999. Although the Perception Outlaw 11.5 looks promising at $729. $600 I would be keeping my eye on the used market. Craigs List. Facebook Marketplace. You can find some killer deals there.

I've done an insane amount of homework on this topic. Glad to help if you have any questions.
