Bury FC and Bolton Wanderers, both in League One, are facing expulsion from the EFL and liquidation unless miracle ownership groups appear out of thin air.

Bury have existed in some form since 1885; Bolton have played since 1871, and were were founder members of the EFL back in 1888. As recently as 2012, Bolton Wanderers played in the Premier League, before yo-yo-ing between the Championship and League One the past six seasons.

A sad day for both of these communities.

Lots of questions about how this could happen, with so much TV money being thrown around. One short answer is "bad ownership" but that doesn't answer everything.

If the unthinkable happens, I'll hope both clubs can be resurrected somehow, and maybe one day find their way back to the FL.

It is mostly bad ownership, and bad business practices from both clubs. The EFL should take some of the blame for approving both owners which are basically con men.

And a lot of people are spewing "the PL and big clubs should help them out/bail them out."

But...
1.) It's not their responsibility to help/bail out badly run clubs
2.) It sets a bad precedent saying that people like Dale and Anderson can come in and run a club into the ground but will get bailed out by the big clubs.
3.) Even if they wanted to bail them out, there are league, and I believe UEFA rules that won't allow them to.

Bolton has 14 days. Football Ventures is trying to work a deal with the administrator but have not yet shown proof of funds.

Nah I hear ya, it's not the richer clubs' responsibility. Bolton were in the PL for a dozen years...what did they do with all that tv and Reebok money?!?

Con man doesn't even begin to describe guys like Anderson and Dale.

Read on several British sites that everything was done on Friday, only needed Anderson’s signature. He wants indemnity from the Trust or any other creditors etc from coming after him in the future. They said no. So basically he’s a shitbag only caring about himself as usual.

I really hope it works out for them. I have a lot of respect for Bolton. In the 90s and 2000s they were always that bogey team for Arsenal. Always had trouble with them especially away at the then Reebok Stadium.

Looks like Bury can still be taken over, they’ll just have to reapply and start in the National League North and work their way back up.

I believe if Bolton doesn’t get a buyer, they are fucked and liquidation would start, so they would truly be gone.

Yeah, I'm afraid it's over for Bolton, as well. My family emigrated from that area back in the late 1700's and I've always had an affinity for clubs in Lancashire/Greater Manchester (except United!)

teams like Fleetwood and Accrington have shown that you can work your way up quickly from the lower leagues, but still, that would be a dozen or twenty years off if they get liquidated and reform.

Gotta rock the Red Rose for a while.

<-----------

Going to be a tense couple of weeks. I'm not too optimistic they will survive.

LOL...Steve Dale is asking that the EFL reverse their decision on Bury:

BURY owner Steve Dale is calling on the EFL to rescind the decision to expel the club from the Football League.

EFL executive chair Debbie Jevans had already stated that there is NO chance of a reprieve after the Shakers were booted out of the League.

Bury FC Owner Steve Dale is calling on the EFL to rescind the decision to expel the club from the Football League, “If the many requests to rescind remain unanswered we believe an independent adjudicator should be brought in” @buryfcofficial

Dale is a piece of shit too. He was a known liquidator having done it 40+ times over the years to various businesses. If he truly didn’t want them kicked out of the league, he would have went through with the sale. They had a buyer lined up and it was almost done, then it went south yesterday morning.

Statement from the Administrator, Paul Appleton:

We are pleased to announce the sale of Bolton Wanderers to Football Ventures (Whites) Limited has been completed.

Joint Administrator, Paul Appleton, said: "This has been one of the most complicated administrations I've been involved with but I'm delighted to say we have finally reached a satisfactory conclusion with the sale to Football Ventures.

"At times, some of the hurdles appeared insurmountable and the frustration felt has been immense, not least by the supporters who have had to endure too many weeks of uncertainty.

"I would like to pay particular tribute to the Eddie Davies Trust and their legal team who, throughout this whole process, have been willing to do everything in their power to ensure Eddie's incredible legacy was maintained and not sullied.

"Even at the 11th hour when other parties were content to renege on their agreements, the Trust realised the very existence of Bolton Wanderers was at stake and were willing to find a compromise to save the club. It is a testament to their unflinching determination to do what was best for Bolton that we are able to complete the deal today.

"The Trust were forced to constantly compromise their position in the face of circumstances and demands which were wholly unreasonable. This says much about their determination not to allow Eddie's beloved Bolton Wanderers to suffer any longer at the hands of Ken Anderson.

"Sadly, Mr Anderson has used his position as a secured creditor to hamper and frustrate any deal that did not benefit him or suit his purposes. Thankfully, with the assistance of the Trust and others, we were able to overcome this obstacle.

"I would especially like to thank both my team and my lawyers who worked around the clock to find solutions to problems which certainly threatened to derail the whole process.

"I have every sympathy for the staff, players and fans who have been forced to stand by while their club was taken to the brink. I am delighted their loyalty, dedication and patience have finally been rewarded.

"Of course, there will be difficult times ahead while the club gets back on its feet but there are too many people with Bolton close to their hearts for it not to be successful once more.

"The EFL and PFA have both played a major part in the club's survival. They have understood the complexities of the process and have stood strong in the fight to save Bolton, helping to drive this deal over the line.

"Now there can be a fresh start with owners who, I believe, will run the club for the good of the supporters and the community as a whole.

"For everything the fans have had to endure, they deserve nothing less."

BWAHAH to the bold. Fuck you, Anderson

Still sucks for Bury. I hope all their fans become Bolton supporters, but I somehow doubt it. These fanbases go back 4 and 5 generations. Plus, Bolton's gonna suck for a while. Will definitely be playing in League Two next season, might even drop down to the Conference in '21.

Still, I'm glad they've survived for the moment.

Good news for Bolton. I grew up just a few miles from the Reebok Stadium so glad to see them continue.

From what I heard today, the guy who bought Bury isn't a football fan and didn't even know the club existed. Why was he allowed to buy the club then? I feel bad for their supporters. At least Bolton sounds like it'll be okay for now.
