It is actually happening before our eyes right now.

The best young players are almost ready to win on the pga tour, fresh out of high school.

Rickie, Jordan, Justin, Tony Finau, and the others that we might have thought would have a sure bet career the next decade, better up their games. This next batch of kids are ready to take the spotlight away from them right now.

The tour already did a few years ago. Rory, Speith, Justin Thomas, Rham, DeChambeau, Xander, and Fowler all did very well in their early 20’s the past few years. Golf is consistently manufacturing good talent these days.

Right now, the guys you mentioned are in the small field big money WGC events, with no cut, they have a built in money advantage on these young guys coming in....if you can win and sustain it with some top 20s, maybe a top 10 you will move up the rankings and get into those elite events.

I think Spieth played lights out golf for a few years and even though he might not be winning right now, he's still collecting checks every week....sustaining some level of consistency is the key, almost as much as winning.

Great example of this is Tony Finau.

1 PGAT win, but his consistency vaulted him into those key events and he's already pocketed $15 mil. in tour purse winnings.

The younger guys are making that PGAT win just that much tougher, but I don't see them running the likes of Fowler, etc off the tour anytime soon.

The three favorites this week are:

Viktor Hovland
Collin Morikawa
Matthew Wolfe

Didn’t take long for Vegas to see the youth movement. Lol

John Deere Classic Field

Yep...A quick look at this link might be the reason why....when your options are Harold Varner, Zach Johnson, Lucas Glover, etc and they might struggle to reach 30 career wins in this entire field collectively....can you really blame Vegas?

Now if golf incorporated guns in some way, it might be watchable.
Maybe the competitors should be allowed to attempt to shoot the opponents ball out of the air.

Well...kinda true but it's certainly more fun to play than to watch, but I rarely get excited about watching any sporting event.

While I agree with you on this IMO Rickie Fowler is the most over rated player on tour. He has the Players but that's really his only big accomplishment. We see him on the leader board in majors constantly and other than the 2018 Masters he always seems to fails back and is never a factor in the end.

He's in his 11th season on tour and has 5 wins and no majors. Everyone was expecting more.

Remind me again how many active players have 5 wins? What’s his world ranking consistently been? How many Ryder Cup teams? JFC man, how can you discount him like that? You have no clue how much talent he has.

That's just it, with all this talent he should have a whole lot more than 5 PGA wins in 11 seasons. When he came on the scene a decade ago few thought that would be his total by 2019. He is constantly being discussed as a top player but the results say otherwise. That is the definition of over-rated.

Again, how many active players have more than 5 wins at his age? And you seem to not understand his world ranking takes aggregate totals from all his play and he’s consistently Top 10.

Again he is in the top 10 but rarely delivers in the clutch with wins. I'm not denying his talent, he is obviously a very good player. But you will never be convincing if you want to argue that 5 wins in 11 seasons is a "top player" yet that is how he is regarded.

Coming out of OK ST, or even as late as winning the Players...what expectations did you have for RW in terms of career wins on tour?

I think I understand your logic on this comment (assuming that it's based on lack of a major win and generates a lot of revenue off the course which creates visibility).

Correct me if that's not your logic...but to say "most" imo you're not looking at the whole picture..... 220 or so players in the history of the pgat have won 5 or more wins....not jolting, but that's pretty significant in a tour with a 100+ yr history and thousands that have held a tour card over that history. I agree he hasn't lived up to the media driven hype.

Not HOF material, but you don't need a major to have a great career in golf these days. The consistency, is the key...$37 mil on course winnings and a healthy chunk off the course. He's got a good brand, brings kids into the game...I think he's done very well...on the course, he is what he is...a good player...many (including me) thought Sergio would never win a major so I won't write him off yet in that regard even though you're right that he's faded more often that not late when he's been up on the leaderboard.

Your opinion I know on "most", but I think that's strong.

His earnings are not relevant to the discussion. He has huge endorsement deals because he is considered a top player, hence my comment that he is over-rated. He is a very good player but simply not the player his reputation and earnings would suggest. Again most everyone saw more than 5 wins when he came on the scene 11 seasons ago. He is seen on the leader board in majors constantly yet he never delivers. I like Ricky I really do but he is simply not a top player.

And I like the Sergio and Rickie comparison. Rickie may get one later in career but if not he’s been in the top 10 for years. He’s not a top 5 type golfer yet and I doubt he ever will be

But top 10 in the world consistently is pretty good

Lol. Dude he’s won 5 times before the age of 30. Again, how many his age or younger can say that? Very few.

Again how many came on the scene with this much hype? This much talent? How many tour players are regarded this highly? You keep trying to compare him with the average tour player who does not have 5 wins. Well he's not.

To give you an idea here are some of the other players who have much better resumes and not nearly the reputation as a top player that Fowler has:

Hideki Matsuyama: 5 wins by age 26
John Rham: 5 wins by age 24
DeChambeau: 5 wins by 25

Yet Fowler is regarded as a better player, the casual fan knows his name but will not recognize the name John Rham. Fowler is in the conversation with the likes of Justin Thomas and Jordan Speith when his career is nowhere close to theirs. Or those of the players above.
