It was great entertainment value.

It's just that I hate to see a movie about an actual event and then fabricate a big part of it.
To me it cheapens it.

when I first saw the trailer I thought it was going to be some fictional/scifi take on it where there were zombies or something...

I think there was a Chernobyl horror movie recently, right?

I know the history from my time as a Navy nuke. More info was provided here? Worth the watch?

Totally worth it. Best thing I’ve watched in a while. To ill’s point....it was more political and human interest. That’s where the real drama and story comes from.

But they didn’t skimp on the technical aspects. I think what they did exceptionally well is stick true to the facts of what happened while also kind of spoon feeding the technical aspects.

I think the great challenge was to balance the technical aspects of exactly what happened while not chasing most fans off with wonky technicals. They struck an excellent balance and it helped all the other aspects of the show be stronger.

more about the politics surrounding it, which I found interesting.

I'd say give it a watch.

"Citizen X" had this kind of angle to it as well, don't know if you've seen it. You have a "typical" story but you also get a revealing look at how the Soviet Union operated in the process of telling it.

I put these comments up not having watched the last episode yet. Stopped paying for HBO Now a week early and didn’t want to pay a month for one episode. Luckily I found a great stream online.

The “trial” and the blue and red tiles were amazing. What a way to put explanation to the complex nuclear science that it all is. God this show did that great!

They also really were uncanny at making the actors look like the real people....even if they did not sound like them.

The Soviets are just fascinating....now that they are gone (sort of). Anyone my age or older will remember them being the ultimate Spector of evil.

And.....on thought....the Bolton’s would totally have been Soviet/Russian.

Need to listen to the podcast now to get more detail on this finale. 10/10 show!

Roose bolton makes an appearance too

Hahaha!!!

I just finished watching the whole thing, and I have to say, the second I heard that voice I thought ... holy shit, that sounds like Roose Bolton. Sure enough, it was. It distracted me a bit and I had to rewind.

I thought the series very well done.

Amalgams are often necessary because there is very rarely a clear moral compass in history. Because people are messy.

I didn't like this article...I don't agree with it.

Why HBO's "Chernobyl" Gets Nuclear So Wrong

Oh yeah. Read that too. As well as all the counter stuff to this guy. He is grinding axes. Making the possible spectre of nuclear energy as small as possible. Yes, nuclear is very clean and safe if all is handled right. Until it’s not. And the Soviets/Russians got not right a lot.

But even we did. I can still remember somewhat faintly being four and there being concern among my family as we were about 80 miles east of Three Mike Island. Until it’s not.

I hate to be blatantly lied to in my entertainment so I read up more here. The guy feels it was all liberal bent and alarmist. I call it possible reality. And the show did it well.

Podcast (which I super recommend) for the show for Ep 5 and Mazin was super honest where they took dramatic license. Legasov was not at the trial. Neither was Sherbina. And we already know about who Khomyuk was meant to be. But to tell the story with the characters we got to know required this. The real trial took weeks and was ghastly boring.

Except apparently Dyatlov was exactly like shown in the show trial. Perhaps even more arrogant.

I think a lot of what they were putting out there, like them acting as if radiation was contagious, was how the Russians actually were. There was a lot they didn't know about radiation at the time of the accident.

So reality was that she lost the baby due to exposure. In the show they leave it open that she lost the baby due to being exposed by her husband.

But reality could be that she lost the baby due to being in Pripyat and exposed environmentally, as opposed to by visiting her sick husband?

I admit still being confused as to the contagious aspect of radiation.

I would say that being in that town, and visiting the hospital that had to have been exposed to massive radiation from the fireman and workers might have led to it.

well the body absorbs the radiated particles, but it doesn't make the body into something that radiates particles. The cells of the body have already taken them in and the damage is done.

Think of it like sunburn. You aren't going to get sunburn from someone who has become sunburnt
