Waits was a great song writer but he didn't have much of a voice.
Waits is in there with Dylan, Neil Young, Shane MacGowan, and Tom Petty for me....guys who write brilliant songs and know how to sing, but were just born with poor vocal instruments.

Springsteen may or may not be a better singer than Elvis, but he's head and shoulders more talented.

You're just absolutely wrong about Cornell. Elvis couldn't touch his emotion, range or control.

I guess you have to look at what they did, Elvis didn't write his own music and wasn't a very good musically but back then he didn't need that, the ladies loved him and he was unlike anything white people had ever heard before. He was a giant influence on generations of musicians to come.

Didn't touch his emotion, range or control, lolzzz that's just nonsense. We get it you don't think much of Elvis but that's just dumb...

Yes Elvis opened the door for many black musicians that couldn't get air time on mainstream radio. He catapultated Rock into the mainstream of America.

Exactly what I was saying earlier, there are vocalist who suck but happened to be great songwriters or were in really good bands and are therefore popular.

There are vocalists that nobody's ever heard of with fantastic voices, like Annie Haslam of Renaissance, or John Lawton of Uriah Heep

Vocally, I don't know if there is anybody in the last 20 years who had the talent and range that Chris Cornell had, so I would put him up there for me.

I also think that Dave Grohl while not the most gifted singer, is one of the best and most entertaining front men performing today.

This is like the ‘bands that rock’ thread that he opened with Survivor. Or the R&RHOF snubs thread he started with Three Dog Night.

In before the highly anticipated “best rock band EVER” thread featuring Paul Revere and the Raiders.
