It was bad enough that the PGA Championship was already the least valued major. Now that they've moved it to this stupid time of year, it has even less luster. It used to help that it was held nearly the same time of year as our club championships so there was a bit of a correlation.

It was already fighting the Player's Championship for status.

Cripes.

I'm going the other way on this one NE.

I'm a PGA guy so it's 3rd for me. The British is great, but the leaderboard can be highly influenced by the tee time you have...plus morning major championship golf is aright, but not ideal for me as a spectator.

May is better than August imo because it give you the Players in March (again), and a major every 4 weeks or so until July.

The PGAT wants so badly for the Players to be a major, they would love to shove it up the PGA of America's ass, but it's not and it's likely that it never will be.

I will have to side with ATL on this NE. But for a different reason.

The golf major season would just be under way and boom, ...you would blink and the masters & us open would be over.
i like the Players to be the buffer to the masters & the PGA to be the buffer to the US open.

To me it gives it all a nice pace for the season.

I HATED THE MASTERS BEING ABOVE ALL ELSE.

Hey, how is the hip doing?

I never mentioned it but I had my knee rebuilt the same week as your hip surgery.
They did a couple of x-rays yesterday as a follow up.

Hip's doing great here at 5 weeks. Walking just fine...a little early to walk 18 though.

How's the knee? I hear that's a more difficult recovery.

Disagree, Opie. I like the move. It was too close to football season the old way.

We'll live...lol

If I were a player I would swap the PGA and Open in terms of wish list to win.

I am the opposite of you - I love the super early British Open times.

I don't dislike it...but I have Masters parties, watch the USO with my buds...that's not really in play at 9am...for a major no less. But in general I think people out west are used to big time sports on in the AM, especially NFL.

I don't mind one way or the other.....I think the tour just wants to wrap things up before football starts, which is logical. I know for myself, I tuned out after the PGA Championship (unless there is a Ryder Cup) because the Fed Ex stuff to me is irrelevant.

As for importance? The Masters/Open are tied, followed by the USO and then the PGA.

If I were a pro and a choice to pick 2 to win ...Masters/ The open

You have to have the Open. It's the stamp that your game is world class. The proof that you can not just win the sunny, lush courses of the US ...but win on a brutal links course as well.

Why settle for the respect of just 1 country when you can earn the respect of the world.

Good point, the USO is not that far behind on the world stage today. It's still considered the most challenging of all majors...my home country Open. For Euros (outside of the UK), and players from other countries that align with the Euro Tour I understand the Open being more prestigious.

Interesting that many of us picked the youngest major as the one we like the most.
