I said something a few drafts back about how these things are grinding to a halt in the late rounds recently. It has been slowing down a bit compared to when I started here for a while now, but it has really gotten bad over the past few months.

I know personally, I used to make lists and would be keeping tabs on every pick as often as I could, but life has gotten busier for me at work and my home life isn't all that smooth and I just have other things to worry about than who I am going to pick in the 21st round of the AL only mock draft. Life has always been busy, but I could usually throw a name out when I got texted when I was on the clock. Now, especially in these specifically limited drafts, when I get a text and haven't made a pick in a couple of days and I have to look at my team and need a RILB and a RG and a FS, and one has to have played for the Jaguars and one for the Dolphins and one for the Lions, and one of those had to have played in the 70s and 2 in the 80s, I can't always have a pick ready when I get texted.

I get it that it's pretty boring to just do an open draft all the time, and you have to make tweaks to keep it fresh, but we seem to be going through a bit of a drought. I really don't have any sort of solutions to the problem either that hasn't already been brought up. I know we discussed time limits when we get to certain rounds (depending on the sport), and that doesn't sound like a bad idea to start. Couple that with trimming a little off the length of the drafts... maybe 3 bench players and 3 BP guys in MLB, no more than 10 rounds of NBA. I don't think we have much of a bench in football, but maybe we can loosen up on the playing players out of position rules. I'm not saying drafting Michael Vick at WR or anything, but you should be able to have 2 RGs and move one to the left side and stuff like that. I know I've gotten knocked for playing Derrick Thomas as an OLB in a 43 before, even though he did play there one year. I don't know, I'm just throwing things out there. Ultimately, this is your baby, and I am not going to tell you how to raise it and I will probably be around to play with it as much as I can.

And I'm sure what I said came out as disrespect and I do apologize. It's been a hell of a month for me and I shouldn't take it out on this group.

I don't mind it taking so long as much just moreso if we're going the subjective route somehow some clarification... Or something

I took an hour and a half drafting Bob McClure and I know full well he will have zero influence on my result is all.

I will then take 45 seconds analyzing whether two teams painstakingly put together are better than each other.

Ultimately winning and losing isn't a huge deal it's just my two cents I guess

Sorry @Nosferatu I shouldn't have popped off like that

Y'all might disagree and that's fine but I think the interest in the drafts took a hit when we lost Savali.

I do believe we can speed things up by not drafting a bench in baseball, only drafting 10 in basketball and loosening the position restrictions in football drafts.

I wasn't offended by anything anybody has said, I don't like the voting process either but I've been running these things for more than a decade and there's just not a better way to do it. I agree it seems beyond ridiculous that after spending a couple weeks or more drafting that we all decide a Champion in a couple hours. I have literally spent hours over the years trying to come up with another way but there's just not a better way.

We could just do away with voting altogether and just talk about the draft after we finish but IMO that will lead to even more disinterest. I think people enjoy winning and maybe enjoy getting some hoop cash to throw away, I know Meebs does.

My aggravation with things much larger than an online draft bled through last night and again it wasn't a good look.

That said I do think it would be cool to find a way to simulate it

I did offer up the OOTP suggestion for baseball. I never did get around to doing it as it would be easier for me to load it as we pick.

But again it also changes the scope because you're drafting peak seasons as well.

Should we just dump bench now and those that need to draft pen/rotation/lineup go ahead and finish out???

my 2 cents...for this draft, finish it out as is, only a couple more rounds. Then modify going forward.

Just a suggestion but what about 10 hitters, 5 SP, 3 RP? gives you that extra bat on the bench to keep everyone honest and maybe serve as a tiebreaker in close games, and enough of a bullpen to keep it somewhat realistic....it seems like its those last 6-8 rounds that are the biggest drag, so maybe an 18 round draft would run smoother and keep everyone engaged?

Happy with whatever you guys decide...I honestly just enjoy being able to sit back and draft in these as opposed to run them like in our FB group - Nos does a bang up job keeping it all organized, up to date, accurate etc. Much appreciated

Yep, bullpen is looked at much like bench for most, if you have Mo, Wagner or Hoffman people might take notice otherwise it's meh!

Answer me this, why is this draft slow? Why is any draft slow? I just provided the answer...

honestly, one of the reasons this draft got so slow was because of the ridiculous restrictions for players... Its fair, when we all need to follow, but finding a long reliever is painful as fuck... especially a lefty one... Lack of restrictions usually speeds up drafts...

Honestly restrictions are what keep this interesting for some, free for all drafts are boring IMO.

Good analysis. I am down for whatever. It's really only in baseball drafts that we have a bench. Football depending on what draft and the restrictions it could get a bit tougher to look for guys but it's fun. I think your suggestion on 3 BP guys and maybe like 2-3 bench players should be a good enough change.

Finish it out. We can discuss changes going forward. I don't think the changes need to be big, just a bit of a tweaking.

As far as voting goes, yeah it does make it more competitive and everyone here loves to win. Without voting, we could see some disinterest.

as I said I searched the top 1000 war pitchers and sorted by reliever nothing ..

Ended up finding McClure in a top 100 reliever list from Bill James.

There aren't many I will say that

It's easy for me to critique I think for me personally I got disconnected on this one with twenty some picks between choices and the pace that followed

Serpentine is obviously the only way to go so that's just the breaks as far as that goes

I wouldn't mind doing away with position restrictions (depending on the draft) BUT we all know it could affect the voting. That is a risk we all know but sometimes it has paid off so I am all for it.

This is absolutely understood and expected. When we have a couple people literally taking half the day to pick once the hall of famers are gone makes us all lose interest and it frustrates me and I hate skipping people because then people feel even more disconnected, kind of a no win situation...

everything affects the voting... and the voting is where all the problems come from... I actually thing if we took away voting all together drafts would go faster as well...

Biggest problem with this whole thing is that there is a huge discrepancy between the effort we put in drafting our teams and the team we vote on...

in baseball it tends to be 2-6 hitters and the team must have at least one ACE

in football it tends to be WRs and CBs

In basketball it tends to be whoever has Michael cooper
