There’s so much good music out there if you don’t mind getting off your ass and finding it. The “rock is dead” crowd is definitely just lazy, or they want it to be, or both.Plenty of "classic rock" from the 80's.
90's would be a better cutoff imo.
People who bitch about "today's music" are lazy in their search.
I have endless GBs of music I haven't even listened to yet.
I love any rock music from 1955 - 1990. Many folks my age listen to the stuff that passes for music today.I first started getting into rock music when I was a kid in 1964. So my musical "coming of age" wheelhouse is roughly 1964-1977. No further explanation should be necessary for my classic rock vote.

I was born in 1980 but prefer the rock music my parents love.I think that most people like the music that was popular when they were growing up because it's so intertwined with all of those memories. I just happened to grow up during the period of time that's generally considered the golden age of rock music... and I agree of course. If I grew up in the 80s I might think that Bon Jovi or Def Leppard were great rock bands. Many do.

The music industry just doesn’t feed it to you anymore, but it’s also never been easier to get your music out and heard. It’s a give and take thing.
Is it a generation thing, or is what currently goes as "rock" actually shitty by comparison?
Tedeschi Trucks is a newer blues rock band that I like. Derek Trucks is one of the best guitar pickers of all time, and is the son of the Allman Brothers' drummer.
And I'm a fan of Band of Heathens, personally I consider them alternative country, but technically they're a rock band.
If you know where to look, there's good stuff still out there. I have similar views as @beardown07 in that I love the classics, but I crave things I haven't heard before, so I look for new bands that I like. Outlaw Country on SiriusXM has been a big help.
But what makes my situation different is that for many years I was stubborn and said I hated The Rolling Stones and Neil Young for stupid reasons, and again, thanks to Outlaw Country on SiriusXM, I actually listened and now they're two of my all time favorites, and it's all still relatively fresh for me and not ran into the ground like it is for most.
My most recent one is actually this:
Here is some stuff I was listening to in 2017:
'tHoop Album of the Year
Obviously classic rock is better but I'm at least open to trying to find new thing to listen to on my commute.
Scary to tune on "Music Choice" on Cox cable and "Rock" is Death Metal, Thrash, etc....
Robin Trower? Nope.
I like the Jack Bruce, Trower collaboration on Seven Moons.
I just jerk off to sheet music. Come on, who's going to ever do something better than a Bach fugue? It's the gentleman's playboy.
