Is it a generation thing, or is what currently goes as "rock" actually shitty by comparison?

I voted classic, because, it seems to me that the classic rockers had music more in mind than money. Current is closer to pop, to me.

Music videos didn't improve the music, and rap ain't rock. Today's kids tend toward rap/hip-hop, which kinda leaves me cold (for the most part). It's not a racial thing with me...it's a music thing.

Just curious, but could you post the last 3 current rocks songs you've been listening to?

Jack White's stuff and The Black Keys are the only current rock acts I really really like.

What’s the cutoff for classic rock to modern rock?

I recently turned 28.

Rock and Country are both dead. There's some gems out there, but you have to know where to find them.

I blame it on a lack of drugs fueling creativity.

I mean, if the question is classic rock vs what’s coming out today, within the last three years or so, it’s not much of a comparison.

Maybe a better question and more of a debate if you want to argue about through the 70s or through the 80s vs beyond.

Whatevs. Who cares...

Rock hasn't existed since the early 80s.

My most recent one is actually this:

Here is some stuff I was listening to in 2017:

'tHoop Album of the Year

Obviously classic rock is better but I'm at least open to trying to find new thing to listen to on my commute.

Umm... There were some really good rock bands in the 90s...

Honestly I could listen to basically any genre in the 90s. I'm not really a rap or country fan but there was bands/artists of both in the 90s I really liked

Y'all are just looking in the wrong places.

Plenty of good newer stuff to listen to. The Classics are just that...Classics. That is to say, I have heard them countless times. I seldom SEEK out the classics that I was spoon fed and raised on..that is NOT to say, I don't like and appreciate them, there is just too much other stuff I haven't heard enough of, or am not sick of yet.

Tedeschi Trucks is a newer blues rock band that I like. Derek Trucks is one of the best guitar pickers of all time, and is the son of the Allman Brothers' drummer.

And I'm a fan of Band of Heathens, personally I consider them alternative country, but technically they're a rock band.

If you know where to look, there's good stuff still out there. I have similar views as @beardown07 in that I love the classics, but I crave things I haven't heard before, so I look for new bands that I like. Outlaw Country on SiriusXM has been a big help.

But what makes my situation different is that for many years I was stubborn and said I hated The Rolling Stones and Neil Young for stupid reasons, and again, thanks to Outlaw Country on SiriusXM, I actually listened and now they're two of my all time favorites, and it's all still relatively fresh for me and not ran into the ground like it is for most.
