I don't need to see #21 on the field ever again.

Landon Collins: 'Would Be an Honor' to Wear Sean Taylor's No. 21 with Redskins

I've seen it already. It was worn by a special player. Sean was going to be the best safety of all time. Better than Rod Woodson, Kenny Easley, Lott, or whomever ever else I forgot.

Linebacker size, hands of a wide receiver, hit like a truck, ran like a running back, and most of all played harder than anyone on the field. Why would Collins even want to put that kind of pressure on himself, even if the family gave him their blessing?

If you have a huge 21 with the name Sean Taylor in the stadium already it shouldn't be a question. Admire the confidence of Landon to have the stones to ask for it and feel he could live up to it, but Landon is no where near the player Sean was.

It is impossible to say what would have happened long term but Collins was as good if not better than Taylor is there first few years. Collins had a lot more tackles.

Sean Taylor was never even close to the best safety of all time. He wasn't the best Redskin safety of all time.

There is only one number retired by the Redskins and that is Sammy Baugh.

Snyder gave Collins a #21 jersey signed by Taylor. We will probably see him bowling with Dan soon. I know they were out to dinner together the other night. Stupid is as stupid does.

Of course he is not the best safety ever - even on the Skins. He simply didn't log enough time to garner that honor. However I would match his short time in the NFL against just about anyone at that position & stats don't tell the whole story.

The man had all of the tools necessary, a great attitude, a great football IQ & a thirst to constantly get better. Beyond that he was a playmaker as much as you could be at the S position. Think of all of the great plays he made during his short time (breakup of key pass against DAL on MNF, blocked FG to help win game against DAL, TD return vs PHI, TD return vs TB in playoffs, multiple INTs vs GB, etc). He was just simply a football player period.

No disrespect, but I would take a young Sean Taylor over a young Landon Collins any day of the week. Note that Taylor was one of the few safeties taken in the top 5 of draft. He had greatness written all over him from a young age (sadly tragedy & several morons cut him down young). RIP Sean - HTTR. He will always be my favorite Redskin.

I must respect your opinion but I came from the shadows to say this is bordeline
Blasphemy.
Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, Bob Sanders, etc.
These guys had a amazing supporting cast on both sides of the ball. You could argue Taylor didn't, yet he was clutch and always showed up in prime time tv or prime time moments. Forget the same highlights shown of him destroying people, if you've seen full games then you know he was on his way to being at least equal to rod Woodson or ed Reed, i do have to respect that regardless of his talent, there were better guys.

Sorry man, collins was not equal to Taylor even in the first few years, watch the film of the hall of famers he terrorized or made plays over...terrell Owens immediately comes to mind. Coaches stayed away from Sean.

Goodbye for now.

with all due respect to you and redskins fans everywhere, I think the late taylor's attributes as a football player have become a bit...let's just say, "overblown", as time has progressed since his death. I mean, yeah, he was awesome, but let's be honest with ourselves here. he wasn't THAT much better than every other high-quality safety in the league during his time, let alone the entire history of the league. the way some people talk about taylor, you'd think that he was a combination of Jim Thorpe, Dick Butkus, Ronnie lott, Mike Singletary, Mel Blount and Ray Lewis and Jack Tatum, all rolled into one dude.

I respect your opinion. I really do. However, when a guy like Joe Gibbs syas he's the best football player he's ever coached, and he coached Darrell Green, John Riggins, and Art Monk, I don't think it's a stretch to say he was tracking toward the HOF. You can't say he's the best ever, and I'm not, all I'm saying is he was tracking to become that imo.

This entire generation of safeties looks up to him. Guys all over the league aren't saying Ed Reed was my idol. To a man they say Sean Taylor. These are the opinions of guys who play the position professionally.

I know it is popular to say he wasn't as great as many of you make him out to be. He might have been. Paul Kraus 12 Ints in his rookie season of 14 games, not 16. 81 in his career. Sorry but death made him larger than life. He may have got there, but he wasn't there yet. Certainly heading in the right direction in his last year. I call it the way I see it. I certainly wanted to see him be that good while at the same time watching Reed and saying, he is a LOT better than Taylor.

I dig your posts but if you didn’t watch him week in and week out you can’t appreciate how fuckin good this dude was. I agree with the notion he would’ve been better than reed and Polamalu in time.

20 Best Safeties in NFL History

This is the competition but sadly we can never know. I saw all but two of these guys play. Lots of you did not. Kenny Houston and Paul Krause were the best Redskin safeties I ever seen. I was crazy happy when George Allen acquired Houston. Sean's first three years were good but not all time great. His last year he was headed in the direction but sadly his life was cut short so we'll never know. I understand why people liked him and especially those younger than me. (not hard to be younger than me) He is certainly one of the best Redskins over the past 25 years.

I'd prefer Collins not wear it.

But if somebody were to wear it Collins is a good choice.

Yep, it is my opinion. Stats support me. He was a young man with great potential and was just starting to realize it when he was killed. I wish he had lived for many reasons, mostly for his family but it would have been great to see him realize the potential so many saw.

Again - stats don't tell the whole story. It was also more than potential - Taylor literally won several games for the team & again he was a playmaker which is somewhat rare for someone in the secondary. One other somewhat overlooked aspect about Taylor was that he helped keep Landry in check & improved his game. After Taylor died Landry was a talented but reckless player. Sure Landry had a few good years, but IMO never realized his potential.

Oh well Taylor & Collins are/were both very good players.
