A 1st and 3rd is not bad, Peppers is ok. They got one less drama queen in the locker room. Gettleman did a good job of rebuilding CAR through the draft, especially picking linemen.

But as I mentioned yesterday, this carries major risk for his employment status. When he cut Norman, and drafted 3 rookie CB's (1 of whom is still with the team), the DB play went to hell in a handbasket. This from having one of the top shutdown corners in the league. The owner didn't like it, the fans didn't like, but they trusted DG and that wasn't rewarded.

Now, he's let one of the most talented wideouts in the game go. If the NYG's pass game continues to suck rocks, and they can't find a playmaker at the X, there's going to be a similar backlash. And that NY sports press is always looking for something to criticize.

Honestly, I don't see a problem with dumping Odell and getting max value for him. They need so many pieces and stockpiling picks is the best way to retool quickly, I think. The whole Eli thing is a little baffling at times but maybe they have their sights on a QB that can watch and learn for a year.

See this right here!

It takes two to three years to rebuild it, stock pile the draft picks and find them gems to help rebuild it.
I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't draft a QB this year as well. They need to much and they can rebuild their lines and their defense, hell I believe the QB next year is going to blow the last two out of the water!

If they were in 'full rebuild' they'd have already cut their QB. That's what some of the media is questioning. If you're going to hit reset then get rid of Eli.
There gonna trade for Rosen and have Eli mentor him for a year.

Exactly, this is what I was talking about when I said...

If they get their QB this year, they will look back at this if they don't get a #1 WR to fill his shoes. Especially if the Browns, no less, go on to greater things due in part to Junior.

Rosen could be their answer, IDK? :noidea:

But if he is or another QB out there, getting rid of Junior could be a huge blunder if they struggle finding a true number one to replace him.

Of the Giants.

I mean they got an incredible offer and they had to pull the trigger.
They are in rebuild mold and everyone knows that.
And lets be honest Odell was a straight up circus show.

I don't get why the media is questioning this move?

The media needs something to talk about. Their evaluation of things is equal to your everyday fans who don't understand the ins & outs of building a winner.

The VaGiants were not going to win with ODB. They're not going to win without him. That's called a REBUILDING YEAR. :fish: Trading an expensive veteran for picks is exactly what you want to do when you're rebuilding.

I wouldnt complain about Barkley either.
But they didnt even look for an Eli replacement at all last year. Draft. FA, anywhere.

Do you remember what happened the last time Eli was benched? That's why.

They went and signed Golden Tate so they have another weapon. No, he's not ODB but he's one of the best slot receivers in the game.

Yes I know. Giants fans will go psycho otherwise.
Hey his streak is already over. Time for them to get over it.

On a side note I enjoy him being their starter LOL

I feel like I'm the only person who isn't high grading the Browns for this trade. OBJ is a diva, past major injury wideout. The Giants got a promising young safety to replace Collins, and while they aren't going to get anyone at 17th overall that is good as OBJ, they're not in the market for WR anyway (especially after acquiring Tate). They have MORE ammunition to trade up for a QB of their choice, or fill the DLINE in a DEEP defensive line class after trading Vernon. Did everyone forget they traded for Zeitler who should vastly improve the run game and help a young QB?

I thought the Giants won the trade. They are 100% thinking long term where the Browns (which I guess makes sense?) are in 'win now' mode with a 2nd year QB who did look promising, but... I'm NEVER ready to go in on a QB after one year of footage/play. If Mayfield regresses or gets injured, the Browns have mortgaged a good chunk of their future and OBJ will likely cause locker room cancer. Naturally this SHOULD happen since it's the Browns' destiny to fail. I guess I'll be one of the VERY few that can look back and say, "I told ya." when it happens (because it will).

I think they both won in that trade.
Browns needed a #1 WR. They have a great offense on paper anyways. It completes their offensive puzzle.
The Giants paid all the guaranteed money to Beckham. This year is the only uncuttable year for the Browns as far as dead money goes.

I truly think both sides won in this trade.

All fair points. A coworker brought up the exact same point that both teams were winners. I just don't understand the huge, "OMFG WIN BROWNS, FAIL GIANTS!" backlash by various analysts/sites (Walt/ESPN/etc).

well I am one of the few I guess that think the Giants did a smart thing.
The dumb thing was them signing him last year in the 1st place.
Not much forward thinking there.

but they can look at it with dead cap space & guaranteed money, they bought a 1st & a 3rd & a pretty decent safety.
