NOW WE'RE COOKING:

Bears get WR Patterson on a 2-Year Deal

Love this move. Good price for a very versatile player that can make plays in space. Not Kareem Hunt, but a definite weapon on Offense.

#2 behind Robinson?
He was brought in for kick and punt returns. He will be number 4 or 5 behind Robinson, Gabriel, Miller, and probably Wims. I see him as a gimmick on offense that will be used to draw defenses attention.

I’m not super enthusiastic about him, but it’s only a 2 year deal.

I will say tho, that Patterson can be a tough matchup, due to his size and agility, is good in space and is an above-average returner.

I haven't read/heard the terms yet, but I assume it was fairly cheap.

I just wanna say, that i love seeing the instability within the Packers organization. Ya, they took Amos, but for probably too much money...exacerbated by the fact that they simultaneously overpaid for two unproven LBs and are a year removed from giving an aging Aaron Rogers an outrageous contract.

I think you are exaggerating the situation. The Amos deal is being lauded by everyone other than Bears fans. While I agree that we gave the Smith's alot of money but any dip into free agency forces you to spend more but if they ascend, which has to be the plan/hope, then the contracts will be fine especially since both have small guaranteed money figures. I admit I think we made a mistake on the Turner contract but I am happy to see the Packers Organization involved with FAs for a change.

ESPN gave the Amos signing a B-, and none of the other signings above a C-, so I disagree that it's just Bears fans.

I don't think anything else is really exaggerated. I understand being happy about action in FA, but in that vein, you should understand why Bears fans are enjoying it too. Packers have been the picture of stability for fucking ever, and and have flat-owned the Bears during that time. Last season and this offseason, so far, does not scream stability, for the Packers, by any means.

The Perry contract was an ok to bad deal for a player that couldnt stay healthy unfortunately. I am glad they finally ripped the bandaid off. Its a new regime that wants to go in a different direction. Packers also have 10 draft picks, third most draft capital in the league before recent deals. I dont know that means its unstable. However the on-field product has been dreadful the last two years.

I have to say that as much as I hate Amos signing with the Pack, it was a good move for them. Overpriced no doubt, but he will help bring stability to a young and still weak secondary. Now having said that, he can go fuck himself.

Put me down as a Bear fan who thinks this was a damn good signing by the team. Patterson is a perfect fit for Nagy's offensive schemes, plus we get his well-above-average return ability to boot - in fact, I'll go as far to say he will be the best we've had since the days when Hester was roaming around back there. I still think the key to the Pats beating us last year was when he busted that kickoff return for a TD. It just sucked the air out of the momentum we were building at that point in the game.

Patterson returning kicks with Cohen returning punts is really nice.

When i saw we signed Patterson, i didn't expect to get much more out of him than that, some good special teams play and maybe some interesting looks on a limited basis on offense. Patterson is almost a complete bust as far as being a receiver so we can't expect much there.

I wasn't thinking as much in terms of volume as I was him fitting Nagy's scheme to a 'T'. We have a lot of weapons on O, so I'm sure we're all i agreement that he's only going to get so many touches or receive so many targets. But it's when and how he will be used that makes me believe this is a fantastic signing. My guess is he'll line up in the backfield as much or even more than on the line of scrimmage. We should see him utilized in plenty of screens & wheelhouse patterns, as well as taking the short shovel pass after going in motion ahead of the snap. This signing also signals to me that Nagy intends to go with more plays coming out of the spread formation than last year. The Bears are really building a speed-oriented, wide open offensive game plan, and they are acquiring the right players to handle it.

Apparently the bears have been talking to haha Clinton-Dix. Not sure if I want him either.
kid seemed to be a decent play-maker there for a couple years before falling out of grace in a not-so graceful season...at the right price, I would entertain the idea.

I think he's an upgrade from Amos and he's a former packer
I’m not so sure. He’s better in coverage, but he’s not the superior tackler. It all depends on his role with the team. If he’s a part time safety, splitting time with Bush, and has a short contract, I like it. I think him and Skrine could improve our pass defense, but might hurt our run defense.

I think Skrine is an underrated signing. The man excelled as a nickel corner, then sucked outside. I’d like to see us able to bring in another solid pass rusher too. Justin Houston anyone?
