Perhaps I don't have all the facts... but from what I have read and saw on CFB Live, the NCAA should not have granted this. I have nothing against Ohio State, but the NCAA is a joke and needs dissolved or completely revamped. And this instance isn't the only reason I think that about the NCAA, its actually quite a small one.

Good for Ohio State.

Bad for the NCAA.

Good. As he should. The NCAA transfer rules are bogus. If Greg Mattison can coach at OSU this year a transfer from Georgia sure as hell sure be able to play.

This is bullshit, coaches do not just up and transfer willy nillie as people like you want to pretend. There are buyouts, there are contracts and it ALL has to be followed 100%.

Checking the social media feeds, one of the criticisms making the rounds is that the NCAA did this due to favoritism towards Ohio State. If it's one thing the NCAA's been known for this past decade or so is favoritism towards Ohio State.

That's simplifying it. Tressell flat out lied to the NCAA so his players could play in a bowl game. Teams have been hit much harder when shit happened and a coach didn't even know about it.

To lead THE Ohio State University to a national championship.

Woooooooooooo!

Sure, the guy who wasn't good enough to play for a three loss team is going to dethrone the kings. His honeymoon period for looking good while losing at a shitty Georgia high school is over now. And Urban's gone bub. I appreciate the delusion though.

But yeah, the NCAA is a complete joke. This was the weakest waiver appeal of all time, but they did it because they were cowards. They have absurd rules about transferring and punish schools for improperly icing cookies or force players to pay back expenses from team meals if they eat too much, and then they selectively enforce those rules, including giving UNC a slap on the wrist. It's time for Congress to disband the NCAA once and for all.

I hope that's sarcasm

I think what you are looking for is coaches still have plausible deniabiility.

Are you serious? The coaches aren’t paying a buyout, the schools hiring them away are paying the buyouts.

Many of these top programs make so much money off these kids that paying 1 million, 5 million, 10 million or whatever is nothing to them to get a coach they want.

It is a joke. Then the coaches will spend years recruiting and building relationships with kids and leave the week after they sign a commitment to the school. Happens every year.

Or as the president of the Saban fan club, I’m sure you know how he left MSU. He tells the team he isn’t going anywhere. He is staying at MSU. Then leaves in the middle of the night without addressing the team. Coaches can come and go as they please. When you are paying coaches 3, 4, 5, 10 million a year — a million dollar buyout is like 100 bux.

This is hardly some groundbreaking waiver decision. Just last year OSU had two players transfer because they were buried on the depth chart that were given waivers for no reason whatsoever. Check out Antonio Williams (UNC) and Jack Wohlabaugh (Duke). There's no real reason even given for their waiver requests, but they got them. Fields at least has a reasonable case.

You mean the difference between there's no proof someone knew about a situation and the coach actually straight up lying to the NCAA. lol

Correct.

I understand the frustration with the USC deal but your AD basically thumbed his nose at the NCAA. Not a good idea.

But what is remarkable are schools like Miami and UNC receiving little to no punishment

1st I will start this by saying I 100% think Fields should have gotten cleared to play this year and glad he did....

But I feel like the NCAA is going down a dangerous path by granting this waiver. Whats to stop a kid from now on transfering, lying and claim racism as the reason so he can immediately play? And in today social justice age the NCAA cant question it and really has no choice but to grant the waiver....basically giving us Free Agency in CFB

I agree he was an ass but he was also saying the coaches were not involved and wouldn't back down. But you're right about Miami and UNC. Those two schools should have had their programs disbanded for the shit they pulled when compared to others.

In fairness, leaving the state of Ohio to take flight in North Carolina is nothing new.

It's a new age in college football. QBs especially. They will commit and if they don't get the starting gig they will hit the transfer portal the next season with some excuse like I walked by a frat house and they yelled mean things at me.
