at his very first bat as a manager/player he hit a homerun...…….
I actually got to see him play, but don't remember a whole lot about it.....RIP in peace frank...….You earned your spot in the HOF...…….
Frank really had an ugly looking swing, far from a classic looking stroke like Billy Williams or DiMaggio. Didn't matter, he more than got the job done....kind of like Musial in that way.

I was lucky enough to be growing up in Baltimore when Frank Robinson came to town and saw him play.
Great hitter, tough, smart player, the whole package.
It's no surprise the Orioles became a powerhouse as soon as he arrived.
That was such great timing for both parties, the O's had a whole bunch of homegrown talent like Brooks, Boog, and Palmer maturing and then Frank showed up and just supercharged the team. The Reds thought Frank was old and through, but he proved them wrong in a big way.

Great ballplayer who I was fortunate enough to see live a few times and was at the game where he hit 2 grand slams against the Senators. He missed a chance for #3 when Blair grounded out with 2 on their last AB with Robinson on deck.

Yep, with two Robinsons, with hall of fame caliber, on the same team to go along with a great pitching staff, it would have been impossible for the Orioles to have not made some noise.

Didn’t get to see him much as a player, but his short tenure as the Nats manager sure was memorable. RIP Frank

I remember when I was a kid and he was the manager of the Expos, and the Expos pitching was terrible outside of Javier Vazquez, and he went into a series against the Braves saying his starters were gonna go 5 innings no matter what, and Tomo Ohka gave up like 10 runs in 5 innings the first game of the series.

On the first one Scioscia said after Donnelly was busted with sandpaper in his glove that he was going to have every one of Frank's pitchers strip searched. Just a dick move from a scumbag that got busted. I wish they would have fought because even with the 20 year age difference, Frank would have kicked Mike's ass.

On the last one, he took that decision really hard. Lecroy was always a punch line in MN because he wasn't much of a player. He could bash a little bit, but he had no position and we had spent a 1st round pick on a DH/3rd string C/1B.

Matt was a good guy and he understood that it had to be done or they would have just kept running.
