Fangio.....

As much as it pleases me him leaving Chicago so their fans can have an extra meltdown.
But Elway is a train wreck in that front office , wasn't Vance Joseph a defensive coach?
Why go hire another DC coach?

I know Kingsbury is the one everyone thinks is a bad hire but to me, he is really a complete unknown. For all we know, this may work out well for the Cards. I do think he will work well with Rosen. Whether it's enough remains to be seen.

For me, it is hands down Gase. I don't understand what anybody sees in this guy. I don't even think he's a good offensive coach. The Dolphins were actually a team becoming respectable and he did nothing there except piss everybody off and set that team back 5 years, imo.

Fangio has 32 years of NFL experience and has been a DC for 19 years. His defenses are regularly in the top 10 in the league. Vance Joseph was a DC for ONE year and his defense in Miami was crappy. Not sure how you can possibly compare the two.

The Broncos defense slid a lot last year and Fangio will bring discipline, attention to detail and accountability to the defense and the entire team. On the offense, the current reported plan is to have Gary Kubiak step into the OC role. Most in Denver are feeling pretty good about this hire but as usual, only time will tell if it was a good move or a bad move.

Fwiw, I don't buy into the "defensive/ offensive" head coach narrative. For Denver, it all depends on whether they can get a QB in there that's worth a damn and then put some weapons around him. Fangio being a defense guy is irrelevant. With Kubiak running the offense, Fangio has a guy that was already a HC and is proven as an OC. With what they have had at QB the last few years, they weren't winning shit. i doubt they can correct that immediately though. I don't think Foles or Flacco are the answer but one of those two might be able to keep them afloat until they can draft and develop someone to be a franchise guy.

All of them are horrible, right @Scooby-Doo ?
You got that right. But Kingsbury is by far the worst. He has no shot because he coached in college and has no NFL experience. At least that is what all the SportsHoopla experts are telling me. I'm so depressed.:bawling:

The only good hire would have been a scientific clone of Belichick.

To be fair, Gase never had a prayer in Miami. Horrible QB situation even with Tannehill (who wasn't his guy), and he was hurt for the most part so he was trotting out fucking Brock Osweiler. His RB is almost eligible for AARP, and he made the most out of Kenyan Drake. His WRs were underachievers, and his defense was crap. I don't think it was the worst hire for the Jets.
Yes he had some issues to deal with but if you understood all of the negative intangibles that he brought to the team you would get it pretty quickly. I won't even get into it as I'm happy that he's gone. Lucky if he lasts 2 years in NY.

There was a similar poll about NFL head coach hires three years ago.... the commonly designated worst hire is the only one of them still employed (and has a SB ring). The generally most popular choice was fired before the end of his 2nd season, having proven utterly incompetent.

So nice to revisit this poll in a few seasons, and see how things have worked out.

Kingsbury I have the greatest doubts about, at the moment.

He has Nick Foles to thank for that. We’ll see how he prays him for that.

As someone who overdrafted Drake this year, I have to disagree. Watching telecasts at the end of the year lamenting the running game while Drake was underutilized in favor of old man Gore was hilarious. The issues with Devante Parker (deep in the doghouse apparently) are confusing at the least, especially after trading away Landry.

The worst hire? Maybe not, but why not hire him as an OC with someone over him making the big decisions?

Dave Toub anyone? Why does everyone want an OC or DC to be head coach? It's only a guarantee to tilt the personnel decisions.

Even as a big McVay fan, I can't believe teams are trying his coaching tree already (more of a sapling, lol). LaFleur didn't get much done in Tennessee as OC, so lets hire him as a HC!!! Now the Bengals are sniffing around QB coach Zac Taylor?

I understand not wanting retreads, but now they're harvesting before ripe...

I agree with you but it seems like some of these teams are looking for that home run these days that nobody else sees coming. And they are willing to strike out several times if necessary to find it.

Lafleur and Kingsbury for me.

The panic is real in some teams, to find the next great young coach.

I get what people are saying about Kingsbury as a mediocre college coach, but he's supposed to be a QB-whisperer, and Arizona has the dreamiest of dreamy young QB's from the most recent draft.

For me, Gase is the worst, but it's completely in keeping with how the NYJ do business, so...I don't know how to complete that sentence

I guess we'll see. I admittedly don't know as much as you regarding his Miami hire, but I'd be surprised if his replacement has more success over the next couple years.

I had 3 friends who went against my strong opinions and drafted him early. It's not as if he was some amazing runner who they kept under wraps - Gore had a better YPC on more carries. There's clearly something about Drake that is keeping him from taking that next step to being a bellcow. I can't help but laugh about Parker. His camp was adamantly against the Browns drafting him, so seeing him flounder doesn't exactly evoke and empathy from me.

He was going to get another chance whether it was the Jets or someone else. He's still thought of as a bright young mind, so it might've just been a poor fit.
