So much talk lately about expanding the playoff, so lets just get a general feel of the board.

Also... no potato salad.

No expansion.

To each their own. I had been reading so much talk about it lately and was actually surprised by how many people didn't want/think about expanding the playoff.

Not that it would happen any time soon anyway.

This is not a playoff. It is an Invitational. The only way the committee will get "The 4 very best football teams in America" is to pick at least 8 teams.

Will there be blowouts? Sure.
Will there be upsets? Occasionally.
Will it lessen the controversy? Probably not.

I guess my real beef is, once expansion starts, say at 6, then we need 8. At 8 we need 16 etc.
Just human nature.
I would go with 6 or 8 if that's it.

6-8 is fine. No need to dilute the system but its fucking criminal that you have situations where a conference champion is left out because they didn't pass the eye test as one of the "best 4"

a traditional playoff does not crown the best team at the end of the season instead it crowns a tournament winner if you want a playoff a true playoff go to fcs leave fbs alone. I am not for expansion at this time and even if i were it would be for 6 at the very most. I dont see a #5 or #6 team that looks like they should be #1 or #2 which is what our current system is designed to do not have some participation trophy cinderella story bullshit

Just remember the arguments that caused it to expand to 4. 2 is not enough. The #3 team surely deserved a shot. They have morphed to. 4 is not enough. The number 5 or 6 team deserved a shot. Then once you expand to 8 the argument will become. 8 is not enough the number 9 or 10 team clearly deserved a shot.

This is how you water a championship process down and it happened in NCAA basketball.

But we have to include #9 and #10 becaus ethey could get hot and win it all. You realize that even if we had 8, we wouldn’t have had all the conference champs.

how the fuck does the FCS have a real playoff system and the FBS doesn't?
Parity is a lot closer in FCS, they play home games and don't have bowl games, the infrastructure requirements are a fraction of the big schools, money and TV aren't really a factor, and it's really all they have. Those for starters.

Really, everyone wants to try and make major college football be the same as every other form that is so vastly different it is nearly an entirely different sport.

Not only isn't there parity in the P5's, but the disparity is massively larger than any other sport. And that changes everything.

What so many of you want is pie in the sky. No, it's not impossible that a 16 seed could upset a 1, but it's going to be super fucking rare at best and for what? This illusion that you are going to get better football? :L

What you really get is more watered down regular seasons than we already have. 2 and 3 loss teams making these bloated playoffs will be the norm. Most also want a non selection process which requires a complete overhaul, would end up killing a lot of rivalry games, and destroy out of conference games. Not to mention anything less than 16 still doesn't likely get G5's in and the reduction of bowl games gives them even less post season, less money as a collective, and less overall to play for. So you really think they are going to vote for it?

The CFP governing body is made up of the TEN conferences. Plus ND. It's ingrained that they are represented in the process going forward.

When you REALLY look deeper into the ramifications of expanding, the amount of change required to pull it off, and remember there is no body above the schools that can push them/make them go through these changes most will not want, you get why this dream you all have is not going to happen.

Tell me how March Madness is not better than the CFP
