he was awesome in Montreal too (128 OPS+ and 21.3 WAR in 654 games (5.3 WAR per 650 PA)). it's not like his bat fell off when he went to St. Louis (134 OPS+ at age 38-39 before retiring). Great hitter (.313/.400/.565, 141 OPS+) even after you adjust for his era and Coors Field, a very good baserunner and a great fielder (7 Gold Gloves, +94 Total Zone Runs). He had 72.7 WAR in just over 8000 PA and averaged nearly 6 WAR per 650 games. He was very good for a long time (4+ WAR in ten seasons, 48.3 Wins Above Average) and has a strong peak (7.8 WAR in 2001 and 9.8 in 1997). He's 11th all-time among right fielders in WAR7, 10th in JAWS and 11th in WAR (all figures above the averages for HOF right fielders).

easy yes for me.

Yes....I'll try to find the article I was reading the other day, but if you look at his numbers (particularity sabermetrics) compared to HOF right fielders, he's right around the average of that group.

I think so, but I'm pretty biased. Walker saw a significant jump in vote percentage this year but he's only got a couple of cycles left. The players eligible in the next 2 years doesn't bode well for the guys who have been stuck on the ballot. It's still insane Walker, Edgar, and Mussina can't get in.

Walker was one of the most pure hitters I have ever seen.
Amazing outfielder as well. Would be a shame if he is held out

right field seems like a pretty top heavy position too. There's 5 right fielders with 105+ WAR (Ruth, Aaron, Musial, Ott, Robinson) and two more north of 90 (Clemente and Kaline). Then there's a pretty big gap between Kaline and the next guy (Reggie Jackson at 74 WAR, Walker's at 72.7). It's the only position to have 5 guys with 90+ WAR and there's seven of them.

I think he's a yes but I don't feel as strongly about it as others seem to. I also confess I haven't recently looked at it closely, and he IS still a yes for me.

I really did not get to see joyner so .........

Much of Joyner's career overlapped with Walker's, so if you didn't really see Joyner play, did you really see Walker play (particularly during his prime)?

Either way, you don't win 3 batting titles, an MVP, 7 gold gloves, and have a 70+ WAR by just being pretty good...

it must suck for Nolan Arenado to already know he will never be a Hall of Famer since he has played in Colorado

Ray Lankford and Paul O'Neill for HOF!

you can't be serious in comparing Langford and O'neill with Walker..

150 more HR, 500 more rbi, 40 points on BA against langford in a short look.

The only number O'neill is better than Walker in is GDP.
