Yeah, I gotta admit I missed the boat on that one. Someone on this board a while was kind enough to set me straight though.

And you need to be set straight on your thoughts on Harper....he had the 16th highest OPS in all of baseball this year, and would've been 4th last year had he had 7 more plate appearances to qualify for league leads, and you're saying that's mediocre?

Nope. He's over-rated. Not worth 300 Mil. he generally hits between .240 and .275 minus a couple of abberations. Mediocre production in a lineup where he is surrounded by protection

So all you look at is batting average? You seem to be ignoring everything else...

If he hits .250 with a .950 OPS, are you saying that's worse than if he hit .300 with a .780 OPS?

But hey, if you wanna put that much stock in a stat where Rusty Greer has a 20 point lead over Ken Griffey Jr, so be it...

Let's see how he does in L.A. I think it will be about what he always gets or a little less due to his attitude and complacency. An above average player but certainly not worth 300 mil.

The $300 million would be for them to win the W.S. I doubt they care if Harper is worth that if the objective is to win championships. It's not like they can't afford it.

Not sure getting him offsets the loss of the players they sent to Cincinnati.

Good for you Cincy.

Wtf LA?

to me it shows how badly they wanted to get rid of Puig.... I heard it saved the Dodgers $17 million or something like that but not sure how this is for the Dodgers currently.. In a few years when the prospects get to the bigs (if they do) then we can truly judge this trade from the Dodgers standpoint

I guess I do understand the Puig purge.

But I don't get the monster hypothetical investment in a corner outfielder.

It's a salary dumping move, people are calling it an NBA move but I don't believe the Dodgers are honestly willing to pay what Harper will likely be asking for. Maybe he takes a pay cut to play in LA? Doubtful. The thing about the ownership group here in LA is that they didn't go out-of-pocket with it's purchase of the franchise, they still need to pay off their loan so turning a profit is actually still important to them.

I say they won't do more than kick the tires on Harper but what do I know? I posted at last season's trade deadline that the Dodgers wouldn't go after Machado, that they needed more bullpen help, but what did the Dodgers do? They not only nab Machado, but also Freese and Dozier as well. Glad they signed Joe Kelly though, hopefully he repeats what he did last season for the BoSox. He would be the perfect bridge to Jansen that the Dodgers have lacked for years now.

It seems to me like a better bet would be to try and sign Pollack, who showed flashes of MVP caliber talent last season and is also a natural CF (something the Dodgers have lacked for several seasons as well), in place of Harper and his giant contract. All AJ Pollack really needs to breakout is to stay healthy.

I'm sorry to see Puig and Kemp go. Wood was pretty awful in the playoffs, kind of glad they got off that roller coaster. Puig will probably command a big deal next offseason and Kemp isn't worth his contract anymore, even though he still has something left in the tank. Still have guys like Toles and Verdugo waiting to take a slot in the platoon or bench.

Fangraphs' projected standings now have the Reds just under .500 (79-83). The rotation should be much better than in previous years and could have 3-4 average+ pitchers, but it still only projects to 9.9 WAR and the bullpen only projects to about 2 WAR. They still need some things to break right to seriously contend IMO, but they should be considerably better. FWIW, they project them to finish just ahead of the Brewers (78-84). Projections have the Brewers pitching staff regressing (4.04 R/G last year, projected for 4.58 R/G).

should be a pretty good lineup with Votto, Gennett, Winker, Puig, Senzel, and Suarez.

I think the 79 wins would satisfy the fans if they do nothing else with this trade. But if they are going to sell this component of the rebuild by adding 10 wins, that's kind of an insult.
Cincy has to make a franchise deal, which is akin to taking a space ship to Mars. You might crash land but at least you got to Mars. A creative trade is still possible. They have the parts to do that.

homer bailey is set to be released. i don’t know how much i like this trade
Jeter Downs is a legit prospect though. I think this is a good deal for both teams.
