I'm not sure if anyone else has thought about this, but in my opinion, I believe Aaron Rodgers legacy will be defined by what he is able to do with his next head coach (most likely his last HC).

It's become more and more clear over the past few years that Rodgers never really had much respect for McCarthy and it's pretty apparent that McCarthy is now gone because Rodgers wanted him gone. Rodgers (and the Packers organization) have now put the QB above and more important than the head coach.

What that means to me is that Rodgers will now (and should be) 100% responsible for the success and failure of the team on the field until he retires. He is going to get a coach he 'approves' of. He and this approved coach will be able to dictate to the front office what pieces are needed on the roster to help Rodgers on the field. The excuses for Rodgers only appearing in 1 SB after all of these years has been head coaching and lack of roster talent

Here's the problem, though.... and I'm not sure this has crossed Aaron's mind .... if he and and this new and improved head coach want to dictate to the front office what pieces are needed on the roster, they may run into a stumbling block ........ Rodgers enormous contract.... .... it's certainly going to be challenging to add talent via Free Agency when Rodgers is eating up so much of the cap space with his huge deal. And Rodgers doesn't really have a lot of time to let a roster develop via drafts.

So, Rodgers is going to get 'his' coach ... and Rodgers gets the highest paid player contract he wanted. So, the way I see it, this is now ALL on Rodgers and if the last 3 or 4 years of his career play out similarly to the past 3 or 4 seasons in Green Bay, I'm not sure Aaron Rodgers legacy is going to be anywhere what we thought it should have been.

His legacy is already written: Talented arm. Head case. He's not a winner. He's Dan Marino.

even if he wins another SB with a new head coach? I'm not sure that's how the majority would think at that point .... i think the majority would continue to put him in the GOAT conversation ....

now, if the team continues to flounder under 'his' new coach, then i think more and more will subscribe to your theory and that IS the basis of my thoughts in this thread.

Yeah, I hear you. That's just how I see it. He's a world-class talent that doesn't have the drive or temperament to be a Brady/Montana/Manning.

So if your the GM of the Packers, do you hire the next great coach and tell him behind close doors, " here's the deal, I'm going to draft the next two years like a crazy man and build this roster the correct way then I'm going to trade Rodgers to the team holding the #1 pick so we can get Jake Fromm."

Packers are paying $70 million to Rodgers this year alone. I doubt they cut bait anytime soon.

Jake Fromm? Is there seriously a Jake Fromm mention in a thread about Rodgers?

I’ll tell you what, this forum is absolutely obsessed with Rodgers. That’s for sure.

Dude I'm not saying Rodgers is the problem, I'm just saying change might be good for both sides.
Aaron is going to be blamed for this whole McCarthy deal, if the Pack don't win right away with a new coach some of the Packer faithful are going to turn on him, I'm just saying a clean break might, might be what the Packers really need!

They better get a defensive head coach that will bring in a WCO offensive coordinator.

I think Rogers will be seen as a great QB, but in an organization that failed to surround him with talent. There will always be talk about what if , in relation to his supporting cast.

I'm not sure what caused the fallout between Rodgers and McCarthy, but the last good DEF GB had was 2010 and they beat PIT that yr in the SB...since then, they've had a couple of teams with DEF around the top 10, but for the most part the Packers have been pretty mediocre on DEF.

So while I'm sure the FO will ask his opinion of the guys they're serious about bringing in, GB has to rebuild that DEF before Rodgers can really make a real push for his 2nd SB to close out his career.

i'm not sure i would say it's just this forum .... Rodgers is a major face of the league for most fans in general and the media ... and Rodgers doesn't exactly shy away from it .... he asked to be the highest paid player in the league ... he has somewhat forced his head coach out .... he's in 8 million tv commercials

eh, i dunno. in 2014 and 2015, those defenses were more than adequate to get the job done and they were an overtime away from getting back to the SB in 2015.
