And in your scenario there is no reward for playing quality non conference games, there is no reward for playing well, no punishment for looking like shit, no punishment for getting blown the fuck out.

This is where I disagree, right now the playoff committee has told teams there is no point in scheduling a solid OOC schedule. If the OOC was essentially irrelevant I firmly believe there are enough sponsors that most schools would take the payday of playing other P5. Injuries have been talked about and all, but when do schools actually care more about injuries than money? You can easily get hurt playing Mercer as opposed to Michigan just the probability is less.

I would argue the opposite. A Big reason Ohio State made the playoffs in 2016 was because they went out and beat an elite team. Had they went out and played Mercer, since that’s the team everyone wants to pick on, Ohio State gets left out in the cold and Oklahoma goes.

If it’s conference champs only with if you get three plus losses, then it’s stating all wins are equal. If you beat Rutgers it’s the same as beating Bama. Why schedule a tough non conference game if you get nothing for it? If you lose a game 77-0 it’s the same as losing a game 28-27 because the officials misapplied a rule. The reason there is a need for a committee is because there is 130 teams and it is near impossible to come up with a system that actually looks at different circumstances or to take into account there is so little like opponents or even balanced schedules for teams in the same division.

Look at how banged up Oregon came out of their win vs UW. There's a huge difference putting your star offensive players out against a tough physical defense and say Oregon State. You are FAR more likely to get mauled in one vs the other. Freak injuries can happen in practice, more or less against FCS sub tier teams, but just wearing you down and injuries from big hits are way different.

You are naive if you don't think any major team will see at best limited play from their key players in non con games when those games are entirely exhibition and totally irrelevant to both winning their conference and getting into any post season game. The examples that back that up are everywhere. Even NFL teams start to pull key players when they have HFA wrapped up or in late season games that won't change their standing.

But just focusing on this one facet isn't necessary. We have put out so many key facts that just make auto bids a bad idea that this one element doesn't make or break it.

I showed using clarks latest derp model that comparing it to our current CFP polls going out to 6 games to match his format that 24 of the 26 teams over the last 4 years would be the same. There were only two conf champs left out of the top 6 and both were kind of ugly. This year it is quite possible at least a 3 loss team comes out of the Pac. By the time you add all these extra rules to prevent shit champs from taking up spots, you are nearly back to where we are without all that extra nonsense. So why force ND into a conf and go through all that extra crap for no real change?

And I'll ask you, since NONE of the others will ever dare respond, but how is it more fair to use pure win/loss when only one of the 5 major conferences plays a common schedule? Again, this year USC skipped UW and Oregon while Utah skipped Oregon State and Cal. How is that more fair to use for direct comparison for making it into a playoff?

Of course it isn't. So then you need to blow up all of the conferences, make them have the same number of teams and force them all to have a common schedule like the B12. Without that major shift it is really dumb to use just win/loss against completely different numbers of conf games for each conf and entirely different levels of skipping or being stuck with much harder teams than your other division rivals.

Hey Everyone.....I miss anything?
Basically...Wiz seems to think its my format. Although you were the one who provided a play off format. That is a major upgrade from the current format.

The only arguments against it have been based on what ifs, opinion, miscalculations ,semantics and debate. The majority of the debate against it actual contradicts the debate for why some people want to keep the current flawed system.

I did run what the play offs would look like under you're format. And it removes all the question marks. That we've seen since the inception of the play offs. Your system took all the decisions made by the committee. Based on opinion and provided a solid foundation wilier using an actual criteria. It changes the entire landscape of the play offs, ups the completion level, promotes more meaningful games regular and post season. Going through the play offs under your system . Literally removes all the what if debates we've had since they switched to the play off system. And corrected a major amount of flaws that need to be corrected. I get some people don't like change. But progression is how we advance. Without progression we may be having this conversation though smoke signals.

Great format mistaken. Now hopefully CFB goes this rout and the sport progresses to its most optimal level. You created a model where the facts speak higher volumes than debate :suds:

But UW didn’t play anyone and lost to USC, Ohio State did beat Oklahoma but IMO didn’t deserve the playoff because they couldn’t win their conference. Bama is the exception because they have been the best team in football for what 6 years now even though they have lost a few times in the playoffs.

But I totally understand people’s opinion on no one would schedule tough OOC games, I just completely disagree at I feel it would eventually become more of the bowl games where it is sponsored. No one cares about the Midol bowl so the sponsor would be more wise to spend their money on matching up what they would think is a good OOC matchup over getting the left overs.

But auto bids for the win. #justiceforthepac

amirite @TheRobotDevil ?

:peep:
This would be correct

5 autobids CC and 1 WC but there are some rules.

1.Every P5 team plays 10 P5 games and 2 patsy G5/FCS games. The committee can only use P5 games to evaluate a team.

2. If you have more than 2 losses and win your conference you lose your autobid. That spot becomes an extra WC spot.

Current format is too much human opinion resembles a beauty pageant more than it does football
