I remember when they ripped off this classic

I wouldn' called it "ripped off" cause I' m sure RJD gets some royalties for it,but you gotta admit Killswitch did an amazing job...........its actually a real toss-up which version I like better....RJD was an amazing singer.

Dio was not known for that death metal screaming. There was more soul in their version. And RJD is just a better singer, period. I was never a fan of Killswitch.

GVF seem pretty good. I'm usually let down from the debut album to #2. Fitz & The Tantrums are a great example.

What does age have to do with it? They could be a bunch of 50 year olds and still be considered a new band. Doesn't change the fact that their sound is a blatant Zeppelin copy. FWIW I think its cool for millenials to have a way to connect with classic rock.

They're just starting as a band. Bands change with time. Zeppelin, the Beatles, and the Stones were largely cover bands with their early albums (Zeppelin just didn't necessarily credit the sources). Of all bands to complain about being copied, Zep is one that has really no grounds to complain. So many of their riffs and songs are ripped from blues artists.

A bunch of 50 year olds isn't likely to change their musical tastes much in the near future. A bunch of 20 year olds could take abrupt left turn into something completely different. They haven't even released a full debut album yet.

I agree. Killswitch is decent, just not consistently of interest to me. I'm not a big fan of the dual vocal styles (bad cop/emo cop lol). If your going to have a harsh vocal style, there still needs to be some grit in there when you clean it up for my tastes. When they go completely clean after a harsh verse, I lose interest.

The offspringjust became ridiculous eventually. A video about a sh&t sandwich just showed why I could not be a fan of this band. I always thought they became caricature as well especially with "Pretty Fly for a White Guy". Their best songs were "Self esteem", "Come Out and Play" and "The Kids Are Alright". I don't care much for anything else by them.
Imo, The Offspring's best songs are: "Get it Right", "Bad Habit", "Gotta Get Away", "Dirty Magic", "Hypodermic", "LAPD","Not the One", "Jennifer Lost the War" and maybe "Americana".

Fitz and the what? They don't even want to be rock. They have been crying for pop attention for years now. No where near GVF's league. And please turn in your card for even liking Fitz and the Tantrums.

Did these songs get played on the radio?

GVF has a pretty decent sound, but aren't very good live. Its good tribute music, but if I wanted to listen to a Zeppelin-sound-alike, then I'd just listen to Zeppelin. No offense to GVF but I have more respect for bands that have their "own" sound. Not bands that replicate someone else.

Wannabe Zeppelin sound with Aerosmith outfits... C'mon man
I hadn’t heard them until I saw this thread and looked them up. Their live YouTube stuff from Coachella sounded good to me.

Black smoke rising is really good.

Sounds ok, but their live stage presence is boring. Other than the wannabe outfits, they don’t have much personality to them. They are still young and could grow into something better.

I can’t disagree there.

So after people get bored with these goofballs in a year, maybe someone will start a thread about a band who is weirdly similar to the Clash or Ramones, right down to their costumes, and we can all remember how cool Punk was. Then 6 months later, New Wave, then these guys, who have been broken up for about five months since they burned out of the Indian casino circuit will reamerge with a new drummer and new hair styles and take a run at the hair metal thing, until the grunge movement comes a few months later and blows them out of the water.

Then you know what happens? We get to relive boy bands again.

Well, BSR must have been a non-push because "When the Curtain Falls" is now out. Which is sad, because BSR had mad potential. But Curtains will make it 3.

Downloaded it this morning. Already listened to it three times. It’s pretty damn good. A lot of different nuances beyond the obvious “Zep” vibe. I find some clear “Rush” influences as well. Definitely not bored with it.
