So you think , despite stats to the contrary , that Bell is elite and it's not just the system ? I don't inherently disagree . I'm just not sure there's enough proof to risk giving him big bucks especially for a team who doesn't have a ton of talent around him . You could be right but you could be wrong too
How in the fuck is Bell not Elite?

You think you've achieved some goal proving that in this thread?

He shows up in game shape, he's getting the ball.

I didn't say he wasnt. I simply said there's ample evidence he's not any better than any other adequate back in that system with the same talent around him

Example

Last year we saw what the Packers looked like without Rodgers. It was awful .

Last year we saw the Cowboys offense without Zeke . It was awful .

Last year we saw Cardinals running backs come nowhere close to replacing Johnsons production .

Last year we saw the difference in the Texans offense with Watson and without .

You can go back through time and see what happens when teams lose elite guys . So far ( in a pretty large sample size) webe seen Pitts backups perform basically at the same level as Bell. It'd be one thing if it were 1 guy doing it over a couple of games . It's not. It's everyone who has ever replaced him doing it over almost a seasons worth of games

If the Steelers didn't think Bell was elite they wouldn't have tagged him at 120% of the franchise tag.

In the last 16 non Bell starts Pitts backups have 1288 yards rushing , 80 catches for 785 yards and 13 TDs. Last year Bell had 1290 yards rushing , 85 catches for 655 and 11 TDS

I would never pay a RB... Pretty simple.

I would do what the Pats and other intelligent teams have done. Which is ride them out throughout their rookie contract, say sayonara and get the next man up. It's a position where you can find production cheap. Whether it's a collection of young guys... or finding a few different affordable guys who are imperfect but combine their strengths to meet the needs of the position. One who can run, another who receives/blocks... etc...

I'm really really not lol. I'm not saying Bell sucks. I'm just saying every guy who has ever replaced him for any decent period of time puts is the same numbers . Maybe Pitt has just had great backs all over the place or maybe they just know how to use them and are loaded around them. We will get to see next year

someone will overpay the Prick, and they will get what they deserve, an overpaid, me first, often hurt, twice suspended douche who has a tendency to let his team down at critical times.(2016 AFC championship game)

Yeah, pay a guy big money when he'll be rusty coming back and is going full Eddie Lacy bloatmaxing mode with his conditioning. Makes perfect sense.

He's not helping himself longterm with this though.

But let's not pretend Cancer Boy is Bell, he isn't. At anything football related.

Really? You had to call him "Cancer Boy"?

Ok so at this point James Conner is pacing for 1100 yards rushing , 770 receiving and 14 touchdowns

Add this to what DeAngelo Williams did in Bells stead a few years ago and it begs the question

Is Leveon Bell even elite?

The sample size for his replacements putting up pretty much the same numbers as him is quite large. Would you pay Bell as elite ( as he wants ) or even as very good?

I wouldn't .

What says the board ?

First off...Bell is a better player than Connor, no question about that. But, I've been preaching all along, RB is a production position, based on the blocking up front. Somebody else can give you production when you have a solid, vet OL...will it be exactly the same as Bell? Carry for carry, catch for catch?...Idk, but that doesn't really matter. Production forces DCs to react....either they will respect your running game and RB as a pass catcher or they won't.

What Connor has really ramped up at is pass/pro.

To answer this question.

In PIT...if they signed him you'd have no choice , but if it were my decision to pay Bell even what they offered...no. I'd rather put the money into a proven FA CB or edge rusher.

That said...some teams that actually do make some sense even at his price which imo might not be quite as much as he thinks.

NYJ...They have a young QB, having a player like Bell would take some pressure off him, especially as a dump off option receiver.

TB...The Bucs have a need at RB, plenty of cap space and whether they decided to stay with Winston (likely if they got Bell)...he gives them a very strong OFC pkg...RB1, WR1, WR2, TE1.

Another team that could make sense.

WAS...They have the need, could roll some big contracts off the books. Snyder will stroke the check, we know that.
