They finally have a headliner:

Shaping up to be a great card with Poirier/Diaz as the Co-main.

Other fights will be:
Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman
Jacare Souza vs David Branch
Derek Brunson vs. Israel Adesanya

Gonna be a good one.

DC to the rescue. He got a favorable matchup and I’m guessing a nice payday. Just last week he showed Ariel how messed up his hand is. Derrick is always 1 punch away from victory. Either way the card is still stacked.

That seems like too quick of a turn around for Lewis. I know its been done before, like when Jon Jones fought and then won the Light Heavyweight title just a couple of weeks later, but Lewis is no Jon Jones. Shit happens, it is MMA afterall so he could still win but this definitely stacks the odds against him even further

The weird thing about this was just a week ago, DC said he was likely unable to fight against Jon Jones because of his hand issue. I'm sure the hand is still bothering him, but there's a difference in his confidence in it in a fight against Lewis rather than Jones. Against Jones he needs to be 110%.

I think it just boils down to DC likely being able to retain the title against Lewis, which sets up his next big pay day against Brock. Plus the fight is at heavyweight and he won't need a full camp to try to knock that weight off against a possible LHW title fight against Jones. There's no way he would fight Jones at HW with a fight against Brock looming.

I realize that Jones obliterated DC's soul but if thinks he can't beat Jones after yet another Bones layoff, DC should just never bother fighting him. I would favor DC here and I say that as a guy that use to be Jones' biggest supporter.

It's not so much fear, as it is just a good financial decision. Why risk losing a huge payday against Brock to fight Jon Jones on short notice. The fight absolutely wouldn't be for the Heavyweight belt because DC would need to ensure he retains that to fight Brock later, so it would be for the LHW belt. DC would then have basically 4 weeks to train for Jones, but additionally would have to cut a substantial amount of weight in that amount of time which would drain him. For Lewis, he can have a short camp because there's not a lot he has to train for. Additionally he doesn't have to cut any weight which is a big plus.

Just lots of things that don't make sense as to why he would take a fight against Jones at this point.

Jones shouldn't get another shot. If they did sign a deal for DC/Jones what happens when Jones does something stupid and they are forced to cancel of find a new opponent?

Yeah, Jones shouldn't get an immediate title shot like he's getting now with Gustafsson at 232. They're going to strip DC of the LHW belt and make that fight for the title. That's crazy to me that you have two guys who will be fighting for that belt who both haven't fought in close to a year and a half. Gus' last fight was in May of 2017. Jones was July of 2017. I get both are likely the two best in the division, but from a competitive stand point doesn't make sense. But it's a financial decision by the UFC.

The only guys I see as potential threats coming up in the LHW division are Reyes and Anthony Smith. Depending on how 230 goes, we'll see if Rockhold moves up to LHW as well.

Smart move. Use the leverage while he has it. UFC can't afford to lose him. Khabib could potentially be the biggest and most dominant UFC fighter of all time. Let him fight Ferguson and Diaz. Then after that you have potential fights against Max Holloway and Brian Ortega. Then let him move up to Welterweight and go for two belts. UFC will need to market him correctly, but he could eventually end up being one of the biggest draws in the sport. This whole Conor deal has made him a household name now.

DC doesn’t want to fight Jones because he knows he can’t beat him and losing a 3rd time would tarnish his legacy.

He can move up to HW, fight Lewis, a much safer bet to win, then fight Lesnar and probably finish up with Stipe. It’d give him 3 big paydays and he can retire. He should win the 1st 2 convincingly. Then his last fight would be a rematch. If he wins, he is done. If he loses, he could come back for one final fight

He isn’t going anywhere. No one can pay him what the UFC can.

Dude lives at home with his parents still. Money is the absolute least of his concerns. Of any fighter in the UFC he gives a little fucks as anyone about the money.

I think he wants to fight Jones, but financially it doesn't make sense. I think DC is a competitor and he takes those L's to Jones seriously. But he's adamant about quitting in March 2019. That means he has this fight against Lewis and then the fight against Brock. He can then ride off to the sunset after securing his bag.

The only thing that would draw him out would be one last fight with Jones, but the $$$ has to be ridiculous I think. He's said he has a hard deadline next year of his birthday and then he's retiring.

I do feel bad for Stipe though. But I have a feeling that the UFC knows DC is gonna hang it up. What I'm hoping they do is that once DC beats Lesnar and retires, the belt goes up immediately in a title bout of Stipe vs. Cain. That would be amazing.

The problem he and the UFC have with him being the most dominant fighter is his mic skills suck. That's part of the deal. To really sell fights you need to be able to get people excited by talking about the fight. That's why the UFC loved McGregor so much and let him get away with being a dumbass. Same with Lesnar. They sell fights. GSP was one of if not the best fighter of all time. And I am a fan but he didn't sell fights.

Well Khabib is getting to almost legendary status as a fighter. People will tune in to watch him continue his unbeaten streak. It won't be as necessary for him to have great mic skills if the UFC can market it properly. Khabib's soft spoken nature or even silence on the mic could be an advantage if they can sell him as some sort of absolute monster. He has the look of a killer. Use that.
