I know there are a few German soccer fans here. German Super Cup today at 11:30 AM PST: Bayern vs Frankfurt. Only channel I get on my cable with the game on is Fox Deportes.

P.S. I see Bayern, Dortmund, Leverkusen, Leipzig in Top 4 this year. Dortmund and Bayern will be closer than last season. Bayern has almost had zero signings and Dortmund had a few decent ones to shore up the back end. Coaching should be more stable for Dortmund this year. Newbies Dusseldorf and Nurmberg see if they can avoid regulation.

The game is on FS2 if you have it

Leverkusen coach thinks Dortmund wins this year. I am a Bayern fan, but I think it will be less than 10 points. They sure looked good today...even with 10 men. I don't have FS2 so I watched in Deportes.

I'm not so sure Bayern's midfield is strong enough to dominate this year, but then again, it's been since 2011-12 that another team won the bundesliga

I am more worried about defense at Bayern and their pace. I am happy with the midfield with Goretzka acquisition but still too many bodies there. I expect a lot from him. James, Goretzka, Thiago (if he stays), Tolisso is not too bad.

Some interesting results and close calls in the 1st round of the Pokal this weekend. Bayern escapes with a late Lewey goal against Drochstersen, but Dortmund really had a close call too. Needed a 90 minute goal to tie and the winning goal at the 120 minute mark against Furth. Stuttgart and Frankfurt weren't so lucky as they got bounced. Good summary of the beauty of the Pokal where the little guy gets one shot for a memory:

The magic of the DFB-Pokal: Bayern Munich scrapes by, while Eintracht Frankfurt is already out

Saw that article. Sometimes his ego gets the best of him and he brings on the criticism because of it. He truly did stink in those later UCL games last year. Stopped doing the little things. Previous season before last he criticized team mates when he lost the goal scoring title on the final day to Aubey at Dortmund. More to soccer than just scoring goals and sometimes I think he forgets team accomplishments are more important than personal ones. Seems Kovac has calmed him down and got him committed to Bayern long term hopefully.

P.S. Today FS1 Bayern vs Hoffenheim at 11:30 PST. I'll be at the bar taking a long lunch from work since I am on the West Coast and this fits perfectly into my day.

Effing Hoffenheim! A lot of heavy fouling and yellow cards in the 1st half and you knew it was coming. On one of those fouls it looks like Kingsley Coman suffered a serious knee injury. Taken to the locker with no weight on the leg. It looks like they need another winger now.

Also, reading Kovac is using Sule as defensive captain this season and Hummels / Boetang are going to have to fight for the other spot. Fall from grace for Hummels I hear. Rudy and Bernat not in uniform a sign they may be on the move. Neither is Tolisso either, not sure why.

Confirmed: torn ankle ligament! Effing Nagelsmann and his dirty tactics today.

Have to say I like Kovac's coaching so far. A lot of pressure suffocating other teams attack. Kind of what he wanted to do with his team this season..being more aggressive.

Looks like the end of the road for Mario Gotze. What a fall from grace for the Golden Boy. Two Bundesliga Titles at Dortmund, one UCL Final, World Cup hero in 2014. Looked like he had a great future. But injuries and whatever (headcase?) sealed his downfall. He was horrid against Club Brugge but he has had many bad performances in the past few years. Forgot how to play the game.

Gotze told to join Liverpool after Dortmund axe

Poor showing today for Bayern amid silent protests about a weekday schedule. Wagner played the part of a clumsy clown. No Lewey, Boetang, or James, the results are as expected.

Bayern giving us a shitfest in the first half at Berlin. 2-0 Berlin. Kovac relying a little too much on Sanches who forgot to cover his man on the 2nd goal and Boetang a stupid penalty on the 1st. Robben butchers an open net too. Loss of Koman and Tolisso and their lack of depth are starting to show here.

Is this the year Borrussia Dortmand overtake Bayern? Bayern looks awfully old and slow the last two games....actually it is because they are. Looks like the German National team...One year too long for some of these players (Ribery?), and the pacey players are injured. Dortmund absolutely lethal the last 2 games: 7 against Nurmberg and hammered Leverkusen in the 2nd half today.

Bayern absolutely disgraceful today. Shut out in back to back Bundesliga games and only 2 goals in 4 games total. Unwatchable shit!!! Not sure who to blame, but there is a lot to go around. Management: only bought one player this offseason, and they are down 4 players already to injury (including Alaba's torn hamstring today). They have a small roster now and a very old roster. Not good going forward. Players: Ribbery, Muller, Robben, Hummels time to move on. Coaching: Kovac may be getting figured out, but I blame management more for the roster here. What is the deal with Ribbery and Robben? Anyone on this team can tell them No? Seems like from management down to coach they are afraid to ruffle their feathers. They are 34 and 36. Tell them to take a hike or sit on the bench or head to the MSL!! What were they thinking going with these two as their wings for another year. I think this is the year Bayern won't win Bundesliga and it will be a fight for one the four spots unless big changes happen in the winter transfer market. Players already bitching about the coach....they should be bitching at themselves for the recent woeful performances. They already used the blame the coach card last year with Ancellotti...but Hoeness with use the coach as a scapegoat if things don't turn around soon.
