... is going to get paid a large sum of money this off-season. At least, if he continues pitching this way.

He's really put things together last season prior to the injury and this season in his return.

It is good to finally see him pitching like this. However, it's going to cost a pretty penny to keep him around.

Yeah, I know. I'm happy he's panning out on the mound, but of course this would happen to us...

Struggles with consistency and injuries his first few years up. Now in a 100 loss season, he dominates the 2nd half and jacks up his price tag. We're going to have to pay him like a low-end staff ace to keep him around.

I will always wish Rodon the best since he gave me many happy moments while pitching his college baseball for my NC State Wolfpack.

But he probably is a low end staff ace, what's wrong with that?

Nothing. Hell, he could even be better than that by the time we're in the middle of window of contention. He still hasn't completely put it together yet and already we're seeing some ace caliber results.

The issue is that we could have locked him up a lot less than that... going back to just a month ago.

It's fine... it's just a pain in the ass. I'd like to have had that extra 30-50 mil or so to spread around a bit - ALONG with keeping Rodon.

He's been great when healthy the past two seasons. Reportedly works hard and is a good teammate as well. I think it's starting to come together.

Has a chance to be a key cog in some post-season runs if the rebuild pans out for us.

I just don't see any point in getting upset when a prospect works out and you have to pay him. In a perfect world every prospect would be ok enough to sign for a few years and then turn into allstars but that's not how it works.

I know Rodon's early struggles can't be 100% attributed to injuries but they definitely played a gigantic role in the early stunting of his development. He's finally healthy **knock on my head** and with the amount of experience now under his belt, I think we're finally seeing why he was the #3 pick in the draft.

i think the system fails miserably here. a draft choice shouldn't simply be allotted to a team for a given number of years. he should be required to stay on a team for a given number of games actually played. what a screw job otherwise.

let's not get crazy just yet. yes he's had a successful hand full of games this year. he had a similar 5 game stretch in the middle of last year also, AND another 7 games stretch in '16. even at the end of 2015 he had an 8 game stretch of 2 or less runs per game. i would like to see at least one solid year out of this guy before i anoint him. if that year ever comes i'll be surprised if it isn't for another team. which is why the system sucks.

Not anointing him in the least. All I said is now that he's healthy, and of course we can only hope at this point that he stays that way, he's beginning to show why he was the #3 pick in the draft. Obviously we need more than a handful of solid starts to fully evaluate him and to confirm that he is a top of the rotation starter. But right now I like what I see and in a season of mostly negative stories about our ballclub, it's refreshing to see something positive developing.

i know what you said. and i've seen it many many times before. i just caution against the kind of thinking that takes ANYthing good that happens to a white sox player and projecting it forward because 98% of the time you end up being disappointed. every sox rookie is going to be a star ... a guy who hits .400 for a week is beginning to show his true self ... it's all a trap that sox fans (and i'm sure fans of every other team) put themselves through. it may be refreshing to see something positive developing, but it's twice as "un-refreshing" when that positive turns back to it's normal negative. you can take the worst team in the history of the game and almost everyone on that team will provide a week's worth of good baseball. progress is not worth mentioning until you see an actual substantial improvement in the team ..... which we haven't seen and isn't even suggested yet. all this talk about how we'll be challenging in 2020 or "look at houston's 3 100-loss seasons ..... that's going to happen here now" that's all meaningless hot air. it's MORE likely, imo, the sox will struggle for years and years ..... perhaps until we shed this disaster of a front office!

and readers, please ... spare me the suggestion i'm just a negative thinker. maybe i am, but someone has to be to see this team for what it is. you WANT me on that wall. you NEED me on that wall. problem is you guys just can't handle the truth!
but seriously, i think i have good reason that you cannot argue with. i've seen a lot of bad sox teams. this one is worse than any of them with nothing on the horizon but promises and 'potential'.

The sox payroll is like 15 million going into next yr. I can’t see anybody locking Rodon into a long term deal with his history of injuries. Sox should be able to match without having to dig too deep into their pockets

He didn't have his best stuff last night against the Yankees, yet he showed why he has developed into a solid ML pitcher. Got out of that jam in the 7th in front of a large boisterous crowd quite nicely. Lesser pitchers might have folded in that same scenario. In fact, lesser pitchers probably would have been pulled by the manager at that point and not allowed to try and finish the inning.
