1) Carmelo is gone

2) PG should have a better year since they don't have to worry about always getting Melo is 12-15 shots

3) Improved their bench by bringing Noel who will be motivated

Carmelo was terrible last year.

But, him being gone does not make them better. They really struggled with depth. At least he was someone defenses had to pay attention to.

They may get Jeremy Lin if the rumors are true

Why is everyone putting the Thunder so high?
No way they should be ahead of Utah at the very least.
Maybe because Carmelo is leaving? :P

See, I ranked them by how good they are.

@bksballer89 I disagree.

Holiday came into his own. Rondo was not the reason they were so good in the playoffs.

Anthony Davis is a top 4 player in the league, Holiday is a legit 2 way star and I think Randle adds more than they lost with Rondo. Losing Cousins is a non-factor, because he wasn't participating in the playoffs, where, IMO they were 3rd best team in the West last year AND would have beaten Boston or Toronto. Possibly Cleveland too.

I agree for the most part. Rondo played pretty well but top hair could replace most of his production.

People better not sleep on the Lakers. I was not impressed with K Love this year. LBJ still got then far along. I think people will be surprised how him and Rondo will make the other players better.

I think they need to get Adams more touches.

He's not going to be a 20ppg performer every night.

But, they should have gone to him more than they did last Season.

Dude is not Capela or Deandre Jordan.

He's good for more than a few putbacks and lobs.

Define "sleep". Because Lebron alone pretty much guarantees you 45 wins and a playoff spot (even in the Western Conference). He's that damn good. You have to have failed spectacularly at roster building or were decimated by injuries to miss out. You're expecting them to be contenders?

Cmon man.

What is Lin going to add? Unless they move Russ off the ball and let Lin play PG some, Lin's impact will be extremely limited.

Improve the extremely weak bench they have

Carmelo was worse than replacement level last year.

Agreed.

But man, their half court offense will he pretty bad. You have to respect Melo's offense, even when he is missing.

They will miss when Melo was playing well. But they aren't going to miss when he was playing poorly, which was more often than not.

I don't believe you need to respect Melo's offense anymore. I don't think that has been the case for some time.

I agree.

They get Roberson back but he isn't a 16-17ppg scorer. And Noel is a backup that can rebound and play defense.....maybe.

They might be the best defensive team in the NBA. But they will have multiple players on the court at any given time who aren't offensive threats. That does not bode well for their half court offense given Russ' tendency to force the issue.

Which is why they aren't a real threat for a title.

But honestly, what other teams in the West don't have similar gaps in their teams? The Lakers have Lebron and an assortment of random players. The Jazz are essentially the same as the Thunder. Pelicans are a one man show.

Nobody is a real threat for the title.

But, my point is that just about every West playoff team would be top 3 in the East. I stand by that. Because beyond Boston and Philly, everyone in the East has even greater issues.

Oh that's what you were arguing? Sorry. I thought the discussion was about where OKC should be on the top 16 rankings. My bad I must have missed part of the conversation.

You really think the Pelicans or Twolves would be a top 3 team in the East?
