Iowa
Preview segment: The Iowa Hawkeyes
Last season: Honestly, Iowa's 2017 season was a little strange for my taste. The Hawkeyes fell short against teams like Michigan State and Northwestern. They SHOULD have beaten Penn State, but choked it away at the very end. And worst of all, they lost on Senior Day against Purdue while being led by the 116th-ranked offense in the country.
But wait a moment! That offense DID have some moments: That exciting win over Iowa State, a bowl victory against Boston College, and whatever it was they did against the Buckeyes.
Good news: If Nate Stanley gets more consistent, he can be a dangerous QB in the Big 10. He'll certainly have help in WR Nick Easley and TE Noah Fant. And Iowa's secondary is just oozing potential.
Bad news: The run game might bog down Iowa's offense, and that starts with a worrisome O-line. As Lindy's says "An Iowa offense without an offensive line [at program standards] might as well be trying to play while walking on it's elbows". Oh, and also the RB position is thin and inexperienced.
Key games:
Old stand-by's:
9/8 vs. Iowa State (Iowa State's resurgence shocked a lot of people, ESPECIALLY those in Iowa City. Now we have BOTH of these teams having big plans for 2018.
...YES! This one's gonna be good! Hopefully as good as the 44-41 contest from a year ago.)
9/22 vs. Wisconsin (One of the earliest games going on this year in the Big 10 West... and arguably the biggest. Iowa needs to win this to have ANY shot at the division crown.)
10/6 @ Minnesota (Then, there's the annual "Floyd of Rosedale" contest...)
11/23 vs. Nebraska (...and the now-annual rivalry with the Huskers. Who Iowa has now beaten 4 out of the last 5 times.)
Other key games:
10/27 @ Penn State (This one looks hard, but it's not impossible; Penn State might be looking ahead to Michigan and Wisconsin here.)
11/10 vs. Northwestern (Most likely, this will decide the runner-up in the West.)
Bottom line: There are some holes that Iowa needs to fill to be a true Big 10 contender, but they're nothing that good coaching can't fix. Iowa fans should prepare for yet another bowl trip, but if they want it to be on New Year's Day they DAMN well need to get the run game going.
Yeah yeah. I said 5-7 last year and you all called me dumb too. ( said 9-3 the year before). I'm not biased. You guys just have no talent on defense and a tough schedule . You could win as many as 4 but I doubt itOf course you do.

Congrats, you've mastered how to beat Mike Riley. Something only a hundred or so other teams have done. Hold on tight to that beacon of hope.Neat. 96-24
We didn't play Mike riley. We played Nevraska. Your roster this year is worse so.... good luck with thatCongrats, you've mastered how to beat Mike Riley. Something only a hundred or so other teams have done. Hold on tight to that beacon of hope.

Your D is atrocious. Yes you have a theoretical upgrade at QB but you all said the same thing last year as you store no one could turn it over more than Armstrong . The only position on your team that is what I'd classify as B10 level is wide receiver where you all are very very good. If you're hanging your hopes on a freshman QN with a below average OL, bad running backs and a bottom 10 D1 defense I'd say good luck . Add in a far more difficult schedule and I say 2-10. Sure it could be a few games better but you're not sniffing a bowl gameWas kind of just playing along until this post.
I'd be interested in knowing how the roster is worse this year. No more hand me down pick 6 QB, no more garden gate left tackle, no losses from the best group from last season (d line), one of the best WR combos in CFB, bigger faster stronger players. Sure, the qb's are unproven, but they were last year too.
I understand your frustrations, as an Iowa fan I'm sure it sucks. But don't let it make you say dumb shit.
Agree - I can see Nebraska doing better and going 4-8/5-7. Get the right qb in place then that could maybe go up as well.3-9? Give yourself a little more credit than that. Frost will energize the team. I am not really sure about the defense at Nebraska, but your offense should be able to outscore more than 3 teams.

I think your high end is 4-8 so if you want a bet I'll go 3 wins or less and you get 5+ and we will call 4 a push. Deal?We got rid of Bob Diaco. The defense will be greatly improved. It won't take much. The OL will be just fine. If the frosh QB throws half the int's of the last guy wins will improve.
Bad running backs? Lulz.
You say 2-10. I say 5-7. I'll avy bet you on who is closer at the end of the year.

Works me.I'll go through bowl season

Hey anything is possible . O think there's only 2 games on the schedule where you guys should mark down a W. There are 6 imo where you'll be prohibitive underdogs and 4 where I think you'll have a shot although I personally believe your roster won't be as good as 3 of those other 4 teams . If you can get off to a 3-0 start it could snowball in a good way. We shall seeI said 5-7 last year as well... even though I wasn't on this board at that time.
This year, I am predicting 6-6. Call me a homer, call me an optimist, whatever. I actually think there is a decent chance at 8 wins albeit it is unlikely, but I could see it easily.
