Playing better at home will help attendance a little.

Blandino had a big hit last night, but it's been a while since I can remember either him or Dixon doing anything of significance. Neither is in the conversation to be an everyday player, so if they want to keep their UT jobs moving forward they're going to need to hit better. I hope they do and spare us the return of the Penny/Goose syndrome of the past.

Curt Casali has hit much better than expected. There's nothing in his past that suggest he would or will continue to hit, but he's done a nice job since being acquired.

Casali is the beneficiary of pitchers who figure they can get a fastball past him.

Blandino would be better served at Louisville. Hernan Irrabarren is the UT guy who should be getting 5 at-bats a week.

I'm getting a little concerned about the bullpen. Almost threw away a 6 run lead in the ninth inning last night, and that's after those 2 in Chicago.

Seriously if anybody had told me this team would have 41 wins a week before the break, I would have laughed at them.

Totally dominated by Bauer for 8 innings and score 7 runs in the 9th off the bullpen. Yesterday it looked like the Reds bullpen was going to implode in a similar manner.

The Reds have looked dead in the water and jumped up and bit a growing number of teams the last couple months. They've had several big innings to come off the mat to snatch a win from the jaws of defeat. It's been an interesting last couple months.

In April they weren't hitting and the pitching was at the bottom of ledger. The last 28 games the team has slashed .276/.365/.446 and scored 147 runs (5.25 per game). If they continue on that pace they very well could be the top NL offense by season's end.

The starting pitching has been better in June (4.06) and July (3.38). This club is competitive with the improved offense and starting pitching.

Is this a hot streak or a sustainable trend?

What's the biggest threat to derailing the recent success?

Obviously there isn't much depth and the pitching is very much too thin to withstanding an injury.
Bullpen isn't burned out but it's been overused in too many series.
If shutdowns are planned, nobody is saying but there is the inevitable return of Homer Bailey who could throw a wrench into morale.
Harvey figures to be traded so there's something there to evaluate. Not sure what the plan is for Scooter.
But this team can be a .510 team if it stays healthy. That is almost never likely to happen.

This team is exciting to watch right now. I really think Crocket did a good job in the 8th coming in with two runners in scoring position and only one out. He kept the score close enough to make a come back. Plus the way the bullpen has been going lately, that was something

Crockett should have made the team in April.

The Indians learned a lesson the night before when they didn't add on to an early lead. So they scored and then scored some more. Wasn't going to be a come back from that onslaught.

Mahle had an off night, it happens. The rest of the trainwreck is to be expected when you run out minor league pitching.

Rainey has a whip of 3.57 for his 7 IP in the Majors. If he's not optioned out today I'd be shocked.

Kyle Crockett is a loogy at best and not a very good one. Nothing to see here folks.

Jackson Stephens is 4A talent serving in a mop up role. Gotta have someone taking it for the team time to time. Sounds like a role for Homer.

Blandino was the only guy that pitched last night that showed any potential.

He looked pretty good , fastball hitting around 90' then a change up and knuckle curve (I think) to go with it

Well, in a game like that, the hitters aren't going to hit slow stuff and they sure ain't gonna dig in against a guy who throws hard enough to hurt them. Those results are predictable when players stop competing and start yukking it up with the other dugout.

Yeah,
I don't think Blandino is going be pitching in any high leverage situations. But I wouldn't want to be the two guys he struck out. They've been on the wrong end of the highlight reel today.

So were the Reds. They still got 2 out of 3, and that's better than I thought they would do

You look at the Reds MLB page the highlights are Winker and Gennett home runs and Blandino pitching a scoreless inning. If you didn't look at the box score you might think the Reds won.

Marketing and the rest of the story don't always walk hand and hand.

A lot of marketing going on between the lines. I notice Chris Welch saying This is an exciting team to watch , everytime the Reds score 2 or 3 runs in an inning. It doesn't sound natural to me, so I figure the producers are telling him to give that plug. Well they will have to work a lot harder marketing this team in a few weeks if they make a lot of trades at the deadline. It's going to be hard to sell the fans that some of the moves will be for the best interest of the team. But I will still be cheering them on.... I learned the hard facts of pro sports about 23 years ago, when the Browns moved to Baltimore, Changed sports forever for me, and what I do on Sunday afternoons in the fall
