Clay Helton has to be on the hot seat.

Wait, what, huh? I hope you're joking. Helton led his team to an 11-3 record & the conference crown. Why do you think he should be on the hot seat?

He's got a lot to prove but he's not on the hot seat. He's won 21 games and a PAC championship in his first two seasons. More wins than John Robinson , John McKay and Pete had in their first two seasons.

I don't believe Helton has done a good enough job of developing the talent that he's had at USC. His 8-6 record on the road is disapppinting. Too many close games vs teams that the Trojans should have had an easier time with.

I look at the talent USC is able to recruit and they're typically top ten in recruiting, even through the sanction years and the talent just isn't being developed like it should IMO.

There's a difference in you believing he hasn't done a good job in road games and him being on the hot seat with the AD and alumni. I also think he need to do better in big road games but why do you think some teams don't travel much when given a choice.

USC has always traveled, taling on all comers and usually coming out on top, naybe my expectations for Trojan football are higher than yours. No disrespect.

Fair enough. Not sure I completely agree that Helton hasn't developed the talent when Darnold was the # 3 pick. I can understand your frustration though. I'm sure you follow Trojans football a lot closer than I do. But in his 2 full seasons @ USC he's put a total of 9* players in the NFL. That's not bad. Oh yeah, and welcome to SportsHoopla.

* = 1 of them was the 5th pick of the 7th round ('17)

USC was getting top talent during the sanction years which made them still competitive but there was no depth like seriously no depth because they ere getting 12-15 players. At the end of one of those seasons they were playing with 45 scholarship players on the roaster and after injuries they had three walk on DBs starting.
Heltons been a head coach for two seasons. You might think he wasn't ready or deserved the job but his first two seasons are as good or better than many of the top coaches out there and better than any coach in USCs history. Again, I agree he needs to do better in road games against good competition but there's no way he's on the hot seat and you can't judge him on developing talent after only two seasons.

But its not like Helron just arrived at USC, he's been with the Trojans since 2010.

Being the head coach at USC after never being a head coach at any college is a huge step even after being an assistant there. Helton won the PAC against Petersen at Washington who's been a head coach for 13 years and beat Shaw at Stanford twice last season to with the PAC and he's been a head coach for 7 years. How about you give him a little time. I think he's done enough to not be worried about his job yet. At least wait till he doesn't win 10 or more games. You do know that with a freshman QB and losing his top WR and RB USC is only supposed to win 8.5 games according to most. What if he wins 10?

Dabo kind of had the same problem his first few years at Clemson.

Remember "Clemsoning"? Well, that crap is gone now.

Petersen didn't inherit nowhere close to the talent that Helton has. That 53-6 thumping by Alabama probably has a lot to with my opinion of Helton. And ladt season what the Irish did to the Trojans sure didn't help sway my opinion of Heltons coaching ability either. USC should never get blown out like that.
