Michigan State Spartans
Head coach: Mark Dantonio (100-45, 12th year)

2017 record and S&P+ ranking: 10-3 (19th)

Projected 2018 record and S&P+ ranking: 9-3 (11th)

Five key points:

  1. The Spartans dramatically underachieved in 2016, then swerved right back into 10 wins in 2017. And now they return more of last year’s production than anyone else in FBS.
  1. The State offense is still very much the State offense, running too much (for too little gain) on standard downs but making up ground when behind the chains.
  1. QB Brian Lewerke and a loaded receiving corps should assure that remains the case, even if RB LJ Scott and the run game remain inefficient.
  1. What a turnaround for the State defense, which lost a majority of its two-deep after underachieving, then surged back into the Def. S&P+ top five. Almost everyone’s back.
  1. The schedule is as favorable as a Big Ten East slate can be. MSU is a double-digit favorite in nine games. With simple achievement, this could be another 10-win year.
Shhhhh everyone is supposed to think last year was a fluke and we suck again.

No fluke... but some of the credit goes to Sparty's estrogen.

Even more reason to like Jalen Watts-Jackson. Of course his current claim to fame is that he scored the winning TD for Michigan State on this legendary play in 2015:

And now.....

After graduating from Michigan State, he was originally going to play football elsewhere as a grad transfer, but instead has decided to retire from football and join the Air Force by enrolling in the USAF Officer Training School.

Once he completes OTS and earns his commission as an officer, he will be specializing in cyber systems operation and security.

Michigan State legend Jalen Watts-Jackson gives up football to join the Air Force

Excelsior!

Good lord, Ohio State is stacked

Ohio State Buckeyes
Head coach: Urban Meyer (73-8, eighth year)

2017 record and S&P+ ranking: 12-2 (first)

Projected 2018 record and S&P+ ranking: 10-2 (first)

Five key points:

  1. Ohio State plays in a loaded division, faces TCU in Texas, and still has as good a chance of anyone of running the table in 2018. This roster is absolutely loaded.
  2. Meyer’s Buckeyes have established, blue-chip backups for every known star (from RB to defensive coordinator) and four-star sophomores for every hole in the lineup.
  3. QB Dwayne Haskins takes over for J.T. Barrett, which could mean trading a little run efficiency for a little passing upside.
  4. Haskins inherits a crazy-good supporting cast: RBs J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber, every receiver, a line with at least a couple All-B1G guys, offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, etc.
  5. The defense has holes to fill at linebacker and safety ... and a whole lot of potential stars in the making.

So Michigan, who was giving up a sack once every ten passing plays, has a better than Michigan State, who was giving up one every twenty plays?

Hornibrook, who passed for less yards than Lewerke and ran for less yards than Lewerke, is a better quarterback. Not to mention you only saw one half of Haskins against a Michigan team that was phoning in the end of the season?

This article is absolute shit. Dude has no clue what he is talking about.

When rating Hornibrook vs Lewerke maybe he looked at passer rating (148.6 vs 127.7) or completion % (62.3 vs 59.0) or that Lewerke threw the ball 99 more times to gain his extra 149 yards.

Hornibrook also has -100 yards rushing as compared to Lewerke’s 560 yards.

If a qb has rushing yards in a pro style offense, that means the line broke down. I watched a lot of Wisconsin football last year and I do not remember one called running play for Hornibrook except kneel downs.
