Wtf is with the 8 foot rims?

Fuck having to jump.

He doesn't even need to fully extend his arm, standing flat footed on the ground, to dunk....lmfao

Thank you.. Glad I wasn't the only one who thought the rims were lower!

Why in the hell are 12 year olds playing on 8 foot rims?

These rarely work out. I used to play pickup games with a kid named neil fingleton a long time ago. neil went on to a career in acting after he flamed out of hoops.
this reminds me of him (I knew neil as a kid).

the 8' rims are a hoot.

Agreed.

But this kid has a chance. He moves fluidly and appears to have some skill with the ball. Probably not done growing either.

There's already way better players by age 12 and 13 who have enough size to take him...

I also don't know why they're playing on 8 foot rims... He should be playing against older players anyway.

The full highlights are actually quite hillarious. He actually hangs on the rim after a couple of dunks.:dhd:

These rarely work out.

Well... stating flat-out that this "rarely works out" is probably not the best way to look at it. We should be looking at it in more relative terms. 99.9% of youth players won't go on to be big-time D1 basketball players and even fewer will reach the NBA. It's not that 6'10 pre-teens "rarely" workout. It's that your chances of becoming an NBA basketball player are microcosmic, just in general.

So, while being 6'10 at that age guarantees him very little (probably guarantees at least some college interest, though) -- it does put him ahead of the overwhelming majority of his youth counterparts with big aspirations/dreams in basketball. By a good deal, I might add. You'd rather be this kid than a 5'5-5'6 12 year old who has finely tuned dribbling and shooting skills. His ceiling height is probably 5'9 or 5'10. Very, very, VERY few names make something of themselves in basketball at that height.

Especially if his body fills out -- then you're really talking about some potential.

You just picked out 2 number 1 overall picks and Bagley who will likely be top 3. Obviously this kid isn't nearly as good at 12 as those guys were, and he almost surely won't be as good as them at 19 either.

I am not projecting greatness onto a 12 year old, that is stupid regardless of how tall he is.

But, I can just about guarantee this kid will get D1 offers if he continues to play basketball throughout high school. 7 footers don't grow on trees.

I would imagine the 8 foot rims are for the other kids.

Yep. Send him up a level. It's not doing him any good to wax a bunch of midgets, he should be challenged by playing against older and hopefully more experienced players...a lot of which he will still have a height advantage over.

I started to say that, but when I played JV as a 12-13 year old, we used the standard rims. 8 feet seems more like a middle school or pee-wee concession

And yes, I was a PURE point guard

Something like 20% of all 7 footers who are alive at any time play in the NBA. I read something like that.

An actual accounting of 7-footers, domestic or global, does not exist in any reliable form. National surveys by the Center for Disease Control list no head count or percentile at that height. (Only 5% of adult American males are 6’3″ or taller.)…

The curve shaped by the CDC’s available statistics, however, does allow one to estimate the number of American men between the ages of 20 and 40 who are 7 feet or taller: fewer than 70 in all. Which indicates, by further extrapolation, that while the probability of, say, an American between 6’6″ and 6’8″ being an NBA player today stands at a mere 0.07%, it’s a staggering 17% for someone 7 feet or taller.

My Daughter is 12 and is 5'7.
