Well, it's games left and not beer. Unless you're drinking one beer per game and that most certainly not enough beer.

Schebler has been hitting well recently, but he couldn't hit Wade Davis with a boat oar in the Rockies series. I think he was 0-3 with three K's. Luckily yesterday he was able to stay alive in the 9th inning long enough for Davis to wild pitch the run home to tie the game.

Mahle has pitched better than the other rotation guys, but he throws a lot of pitches per inning. He has been more adept at pitching out of trouble than some of the other guys. It's really what has separated him from a lot of the other young SP we've seen. It's an intangible that good pitchers have in common. Johnny Cueto was a master at it.

Winker with the unlikely walk off to win the game. Currently his OBP is higher than his slugging%. I think he has more power than he displays game to game. When you're as slow as he is it wouldn't hurt to occasionally add a little loft to your swing and hit for more power in certain situations. The 13th inning AB was one of those situations.

Rockies starting pitching owned the Reds. that whole series. I like good pitching, and I was impressed. even though it was against the Reds.

If they would have left Tyler Anderson in for 125 pitches the Reds would have lost that game. When a pitcher is pitching as well as he was, and your bullpen is not that good, Why not at least give him another inning. I am not complaining, just a baseball question. The same question that was probably ask of Bud Black after the game.

Who came up with that 100 pitch limit. why not 90, 110 120. Might be a lot more rested bullpens if they extended it. Of course for a Reds pitcher to go deep into a game they would have to extend it to 160 pitches, and they would still have to leave the game in the 8th.

I am off the grid for watching at the moment so none of this registers to me. this team is not going to win 3 games a week over the next 100.

Be lucky to win 3 out of ten. for the last few weeks it's been 1 out of 3. or better yet, 1 game a series.

The Cardinals dominance over the Reds sadly continues. Losers of 9 in a row this season and 13 overall to a team that is sub .500 against the rest of the league.

It's hard to explain why this sort of thing happens in sports. You see it with other matchups where one team owns the other. Sometimes it's even the weaker team that gives the perennial winner fits.

there's nothing random or lucky about cardinal dominance of the reds organization, and there is a simple and empirical explanation.

every time i watch a cards v. reds series i'm struck by the mlb readiness / competitiveness of each team's prospects or younger players. this is something i've observed for decades. clearly, the cards are vastly superior in every aspect of development. they have a tried and successful (w's) process from which they do not waver. no where is this reds deficit more clearly indicated than in starting pitching. i hope none of my fellow posters require statistics to have this point made.

most mlb teams are superior to the reds in this vitally important organizational facet. there is nothing more important to a smaller market team. the end result half heartedly jogs onto the field at the top of the first at gabp 81 times a year. what distinguishes the 2018 reds is it's a collection of 9 individual players and not a well balanced offensive mlb "team."

the reds on the field are a direct reflection of the front office. many pitchers have come up obviously not trusting their stuff. if an org doesn't trust their process, the play will reflect that. the reds front office / system / organization on the whole / and corresponding execs & officers aren't worthy of the titles given them……… more, the 'interim' tags are emblematic of the uncertainty (incompetence) and mistrust of their own process.

Disco made it to the 6th inning. I think it was 5 and a 1/3. gave up 3 runs. I think this is the high mark for this team , after 4 years of rebuilding a starting pitching staff

I did a poor job framing what I was trying to convey. Let's use the 2010 season as the example. The Reds win the division by 5 games with the Cards finishing 2nd and the Cubs 4th 16 games out.

The Reds dominate the Cubs to the tune of a 12-4 record. The Cards dominate the Reds 12-6 in the season series. The Cubs go 9-6 against the Cards.

The Reds can beat the Cubs, but can't beat the Cards.
The Cards can beat the Reds, but can't beat the Cubs.

On paper if the Cards can beat the Reds and Reds can beat the Cubs, then it would seem that the Cards should dominate the Cubs also.

It's why you play the games I guess.

Romano has pitched a nice game against the Royals. Unfortunately he's on the short end of the scoreboard 0-1. No walks and 84 pitches through 6 IP. I probably just jinxed him.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen two outfielders for the same team be playing nearly everyday and hitting below .200 this far into the season. It's starting to look like Hamilton and Duvall may go wire to wire.

Romano got through the 7th, but this game is starting to look like the 7th shutout of the Reds offense.

Rigs just told Homer to screw himself for making his manager look like a fool. It's up to Romano now.

The Reds got lucky again because of the 100 pitch limit. Taking Kennedy out when he was still pitching well with one inning left was a break for the Reds. Someday the Reds will lose a game like this to. BUT I AM HAPPY THE REDS WON

You never know what this team is going to do. They say one thing and do something completely opposite. example. They were going to bench Winker and go with a 3 man outfield rotation. Winker has started and deservingly, every game sense.
Anyway Bailey could start a game this weekend. I hope not because he hasn't pitched well down in the minors. but you never know

I'd like to feel better about the pitching in KC, but after watching that outfit for two games the results come with a disclaimer. The Royals don't hit enough to be that agressive at the plate and their defense is even worse. They still put the ball in play and don't strike out much, but it's a much weaker version of what they were doing a couple seasons ago. It hard to walk a Royals hitter.

It's another scheduled off day and the 3rd in a 8 day span. With the two solid starts the bullpen is getting a chance to recharge their batteries, they'll most likely need it.

KC is one of those nightmare teams that has a lineup with everyone having the same skill set. It works about once a week. I've seen it in indy ball where everyone tries to hit the ball up the middle and nobody can rack one in the gap.
Bad defense is is sloppy preparation but with the Reds pitchers, I think the moral victory of going into a game and accomplishing goals is important.
Reds won't keep the ball in the yard at home and until they get more Jared Hughes pitchers, their chances of a successful run are near zero.

I don't see much difference in what the Royals are doing now compared to when they won the WS. The problem is the quality of the skill sets. The guys they have playing this season were the same talent level types they were casting off while they assembled their eventual Championship team. The Irving Falu and Derrick Robinson types that we saw pass through Cincinnati all fit the mold in regards to style of play, but they were 2nd tier talent.

Matt Harvey back on the mound tonight. His performance and contract status shouldn't warant the Reds sticking with him much longer. He either needs to start pitching better or join Homer.

The problem is installing replacements that are actually an upgrade. Stephenson has pitched better with the exception of a bump in the road here and there. I assume he'll get one more look this season at some point. Finnegan has shown some improvement in performance. The attitude may be a different story, but I expect to see him back at GABP sooner or later.

I think the Reds owe another commitment to Finnegan because of a potentially very good pitcher. If he isn't able to win at the top level, the problem is that he hasn't learned how to stay in the major leagues. That's not always a talent matter.
I think they can jettison Bobby Steve and might even try to funnel him out of town this winter. He's another Asher Wojo ... somebody will want him as a 4-A guy if they have the depth to handle that. The Reds can't afford to fuel the rotation with this sort of pitcher now.

Yeah, 8 Pete Roses in the lineup is better than 8 Cesar Izturis.
The Royals never have had a box of bompers. But if you play first to third, you need guys who can occassionally hit the gap.
The old Cardinals teams of the 80s did that very well.
