I saw that. I didn't realize he had been in failing health, or that he had moved back to Tuscaloosa. He was a great coach and administrator who laid the foundation for his own success, as well as that of his successor, Wimp Sanderson.

I knew about his days at Bama, Vandy & Kentucky, but was unaware of the even greater influence he had on basketball through his various other roles.

Rest in Peace, Coach.

He had a sense of humor, also.

When he was AD at UK...Kentucky beat Bama in football.
The Cats have only beaten Bama twice in history.

Well, needless to say the students and the fans flooded the
field and tore down both goal posts. When they finally cleared
the field an hour after the game had ended, reporters questioned
CM in a serious manner. They asked him what he felt about all
the people flooding the field, all the damage that had been done,
the goal posts being torn down and the conf fine that UK would have
to pay.

CM just smiled and said..."To tell you the truth, if I was a little
younger I would have been out there helping them bring down
those goal posts."

I first remember him as coach at Vandy, they came into Durham to start the season and Johnny Dawkins was PG for Duke! I remember him being a tall coach.
Heck of a game! Duke lost by one point in 2OT's at Cameron, 1981 as I remember.

I liked Sanderson...he dressed funny

I remember at one point, the center court logo was painted in checkers, like one of his blazers

Wimp always wore that red plaid sport coat.

When Pitino coached at UK, when CM was AD, they were hosting
Bama one night. Pitino was a classy dresser and was on court
for the pre-game warm-ups in a good-looking suit.

When UK returned to the court for the start of the game...during
player intros, they introduce the Coaches last and they walk toward
each other and shake hands in front of the scorers table.

Wimp couldn't stop laughing when he was walking toward him and
saw Pitino had switched into a plaid Blue coat, that was identical
to what Wimp always wore except it had multiple blues colors
instead of multiple red colors.
