Upgrade D for sure but not sure defensive coaching fault. Honestly the fact they made the playoffs with this defense is an accomplishment.

Good season guys. I wish the Devils took the Bolts to at least 6-7.
Calam agree earlier with you mentioning Kane. Player like that would be key in a series like this.

All in on Carlson, bring in another depth3rd/4th type guy D-man...add some better options on bottom 6 and I'll be happy.

Looking at our cap and future cap, we have plenty of room to make moves, we're in great shape. Clowe finally comes off the books this off-season, that's $4.85 million.

Greene and Hall are both up in 2 years so just move Greene's salary over to Hall. Palmieri and Zajac are up in 3 years so same situation, just move some Zajac salary over. Lovejoy and Boyle after next year is another combined $5 million off the books.

Cap supposed to go up to around $82 million and we are currently around $67 million (including Clowe).

mmmmm i understand and agree that if the notion is he's at his highest value, i understand that.

But Cory still needs an insurance plan unless we're ready to see Appleby or Blackwood backing up/filling in...

I agree.... TB just man handled us without any muscle on D... that needs to improve.... we got pushed around hard and the offense had no answer... I think offensively we will be fine... but the D needs a dramatic makeover... Shop the draft and possible some trades and we could be real scary next year... Nico needs to beef up in the off season... the guy fell over whenever anyone would skate to fast by him.... I'm not saying he has to be a hitter, but he has got to be able to stay on his feet.... now if penalties were being called everytime he went down.. great.. but that was never the case... I know he was a rookie but it got tiresome after every game... One game I decided to start counting how many times he got knocked down or fell.... I lost count in the early third period....

A lot of good fits on the list. JVR, Kane and dare I say Kovy (blasphemy) all fit a need on our second line.

In a fantasy world Tavares signs here. Carlson only defenseman I would want. I still think we can sign a top UFA and trade for another impact guy. Maybe lock up one of these forwards and kick the tires on Karlsson, Ekman Larsson and whoever else.

If Chara was 10 years younger, he would be perfect for this team with that 30 foot wing span. That is the type of player this team needs on defense too.

No to Chara.. like you said.. 10 years younger yes... but the last thing we need is a Colin White type player.. we need a bruiser on D with skill that can really play d and score... that stevens or dano type player... someone that cant be pushed around but doesn't take stupid penalties because they just hit people....

Agree. Sure he gets knocked down but that will change as he gets stronger. One reason he gets knocked down is because he is never afraid to go into the corners, in front of net, jump back on D, and battle for the puck no matter who the opposing player is. I watched him closely in the playoffs and he does all the little things coaches notice. Everytime there was an important faceoff, he seemed to have won it. He also has very good vision when it comes to setting players up or being creative when there seems to be very little options. He has a good accurate shot and that will get stronger I am sure.

The fact that he played with an injury all season to me shows the guy will be a leader one day. He made mistakes but nobody every questioned his effort this season.

What changed for Devils' Jesper Bratt in 2nd half of season?

yeah the defense needs upgrade for sure but lets not forget hall had what 50 pts more then a 18 year old kid! that doesn't really scream offensive depth.

carlson would be huge but is he really a #1 d man? i know hes a great two way guy but you trust him getting 23mins a night?

with lou out at the leafs and rumored to be interested in the isles i really feel that tavares jumps ship. he would be a great addition to this team and can push nico down to 2c and travis 3c.



so my summer wish list. JT #1 priority and then look for d carlson would be ideal but lets not forget karlsson and OEL and doughty are entering their walk years

My only defense against the point gap is that both Mojo and Palmieri were hurt for large portions of this season. Even when they played you knew they weren't 100%. Get healthy seasons out of those 2 and I think it's a lot closer.

But yes, full court press for Tavares.

Thoughts on Wilson hit and suspension?
Vatanen got hit where his head was main point of contact yet nothing. I get Wilson has more of a reputation even in these playoffs.

I honestly don't understand and don't try to understand the justice department rulings. In this case, Tom Wilson, notorious dirtbag, versus our incident, Kucherov is a star player.
