Excluding Davis Cup, he is 1-5 on the season.

Went down to Harrison in straight sets.

Are the days of Isner making 3rd/4th rounds at major events (not just GS) done?

Good find. I didn't realize he was doing that poorly.

No, those days aren't done. But you are right, they aren't happening right now.

He will probably find a rejuvenation at some point.

At least it was to Monfils.

And this seemed to be a better match.

I think it took Isner 72 Masters 1000 events to win one.

He played every Masters in 2013 and 2015, and only missed Monte Carlo in 2014.

Monte Carlo is the one he's played the least. He's only played it 2x.

He usually plays Madrid and Rome.

He hasn't played Madrid since 2015 though.

Not a fan of his play style at all, but he works as hard as anybody on tour.

I'm happy for him. He has overachieved, IMO.

Yup, good to see him making a late push. Maybe he can carry it to Wimby. Cant see him making too much noise at the French but you never know.

I doubt it. He usually does bad at Wimby. Much better on the hard courts

He made the 4th round of the FO in 2014 and 2016.

in 2014, he actually beat Tommy Robredo and lost to Berdych in the 4th round.

In 2016, he beat Edmund in the 2nd round, and lost to Murray in the 4th round.

Edmund would beat him that same year at the USO.

So I'd say given who he's had to play, Isner has done pretty well at the FO.

Other times when he's lost, he's bee in extended 5th sets. So it's rare that he has a loss where he just can't compete.

He made the Rome SFs last year.

He will be interesting to follow during the clay season, to see what he does.

robredo's equally good on hard and clay courts, that's not saying much.

berdych is fucking garbage on clay, lol. Literally like watching me try to ice skate.

How did he get to the FO SF in 2010, beating Murray along the way?

As @cezero said, he works hard, so I'm happy for him. He loves the game and tries to play as much as possible.

I'm usually wrong on sports too much, so I wouldn't bet.

I just want him to have as many good moments as possible, because I like him as a person. As a player, he's frustrating at times.

because sometimes great players have bad days?

the very definition of an anomaly. it's a bigger win that over robredo and berdych (LOL) for sure, though.

combine that with isner always giving his all, and always putting in the work off court. it's how he gets to be top 10 in the world and how he gets occasional big wins.
