Nobody in their right mind would do that. Not for a QB that has a few years left before he starts to show signs of decline.
People keep saying that but he's actually getting better every year . Smith could easily play 5 more years especially since he's rarely hot and his game isn't predicated on big downfield throws . I'd have no issue making that kind if trade. Even if you only get 3 years out if him a first round QB is only a 50/50 proposition anyhow. I mean dude is only 33 years old

If he goes somewhere that has a bad OL.....he can be a lot worse too.....never underestimate the OL.

LOL at trying to downgrade it. It was an epic comeback, regardless of the opponent.

If you love Rosen, that's great. But I did say big game wins. Texas A&M was 7-6 this season, and lost their bowl game. Rosen has major question marks for me.

When that game was played......it was a big game. Pretty sure both were ranked at the time. Both teams had expectations coming into this season.

Hindsight is 20/20.

I don't really look at the age thing as a factor here. The guy has stayed healthy, is still very mobile and is steady and solid. I think this would likely be the best thing the Browns can do to address the QB issue. The way I see it they have 4 options for the QB question.

A) Trade for Smith. Trade a 2nd rounder (they have 2, don't they?) and/or possibly a later rounder for Smith. Use 2nd or 3rd rounder they have to draft a solid prospect for the future and develop the kid. Makes sense economically as well. With Alex there, they don't have to play a rookie before he's ready, barring an injury, of course. Now you use those high picks to get the best player possible and fill the other holes. They already have some talent there. They can be competitive and build on that.

B) Try to sign one of the FA's to fill that void. They have the money and cap space but I think it might be hard to lure the better guys there, with all due respect to the folks in Cleveland. It's just not going to be these guy's first choice with teams like Denver and Arizona in the mix. And possibly a couple other teams that are closer to winning now. The only guys I really see going after anyway are Cousins and either Bridgewater/Keenum depending on which way Minny goes. Brees and JG aren't going anywhere, imo. And the rest of them aren't worth going after.

C) Stick with Kizer another season and hope he gets better with more pieces around him (like maybe a stud RB from Penn St.). This is probably not going to work but you just never know in this league. A good OC might be able to work with the kid but I think the kid could learn a lot watching Alex Smith too.

D) Draft one of these guys high and end up in the same vicious circle. You draft him #1, you have to play him. Does anybody see a Wentz/Goff/Watson in this draft? I'm not seeing it but maybe I'm wrong.

Except, he's older.
33 isn't old man. Not for a QB anyway . Honestly that's when most QBs are in their prime at least recently

The rankings only matter after conference championship weekend. Before that, they are irrelevant.

Neither Texas A&M or UCLA were ranked in the 2017 preseason polls.

UCLA was coming off of a 4-8 season, and Texas A&M was 8-5.

What's your newest excuse?

At least Kizer hasn't thrown an Interception in the playoffs! I would say that makes him better. :suds:

The last time in Cleveland Kizer used a valet service he threw his keys to the attendant & they got intercepted.:L

i would actually like to see the browns do this. That organization needs to give their fans something and Smith would at least be a stable veteran prescence at a position that has been an absolute trainwreck for them for many years. He would help them at least get a few wins.

they could then focus more on developing their other young talent and developing a young QB to take over in the future.

This draft supposedly has a lot of talent at the QB position, so Browns need find the right one and put as much talent around him as possible. This talk of signing a vet is rubbish, that just puts off drafting a QB later, possibly in draft lacking any out standing QB.
