Looks like we got stuck with one in week 6 of next year. I have a huge fucking problem with these games. It's a long ways to travel, I don't think Europe (or the rest of the World for that matter) really fucking cares, it screws someone out of a home game in their stadium (see below), and Seattle/Oakland (the matchup) has by far the longest distance to travel to London.

I guess the good news is, Oakland is an away game in 2018.. so this essentially nullifies us having to play in a hostile environment (unless London hates Seattle for some reason).

Seahawks, Eagles, Titans set for London debuts

That sucks. But, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

It also means an early season bye week as that usually follows these games. Less than ideal, but every team is supposed to sooner or later have a game there and at least this doesn't take away one of our home games.

They'll probably be superb since Greg Olson is a great QB coach and Carr regressed heavily this year. Olson actually made a starter out of Josh Freeman, was good for Winston, turned Goff around 180, and now he'll move on to Carr who has already showed signs of being good. Gruden is also an offensive minded coach. Our D will need to bring their A game for that one (course if we don't figure out the O it wont even matter).

It's not that big of a deal IMO. It was bound to happen at some point, as we are one of only 6 teams that hasnt had to play there yet. Not going to be shielded forever. And it's Oakland who is forfeiting the home game, so it certainly could be worse.

So I guess this means our bye will be either week 5 or 7?

It better be 7. They would be useless if they had to play that week.

It's a road game against a West coast team. If it is going to happen it can't be better than this.

I will agree with this statement. It makes my bitching about this game at work seem petty now. :L

Wouldnt mind if we play a thursday nighter before and then get the bye after, if we also have to play a thursday game. that would be 10 days on the front end and 2 weeks after.

The bye usually comes after the London game to allow teams ample recovery time, if I'm not mistaken, so it's much more likely to come in week 7 than week 5. That's not too bad. It's later than this year's bye week was at any rate. The article I read about this also suggested that the week 5 game could be an east coast game, making the travel distance to London much shorter than it would have been if they had to play at CenturyLink, LA, SF or Arizona in week 5. The team would presumably stay on the east coast following that game for another few days before flying out to London.

I'm not a fan of the Europe games, but as @flyerhawk mentioned, this is the best case scenario.

On the bright side, I might be in Europe during that time and if so I'd definitely go.

We're playing the Raider and it's a home game for them, not sure how they figure that out, maybe a coin toss ? who knows, but it's a road game for us, so that's good...

I read Oakland, Jax, and LA Chargers volunteered giving up one of their home games for the London game.

Wow, why the heck would you volunteer a home game on the road ? I figured all the teams would flip a coin or draw straws over that... But hey, anything is possible.... :]
