Well, that is still not clear to me. If you are OOB you can't score a TD. Or do you score before to are OOB? I understand what the vertical plane of the goal line is, but someone said the pylon is a sideline and a goal line. How can it be both?Is it divided in 4 quarters? There is no way a ref, or a camera can see which quarter of the pylon the ball touches first. I not trying to be as ass, it just doesn't seem clear, and needs to be understood better. I'm not referring to anything that happened in the GA AL. game. I'm just asking about the statement that if a player touches a pylon, he is OOB. I don't see how it can be both.
This happened like five years ago in a Michigan vs Michigan State game and it was called incorrectly on the field. Michigan is driving down the field. On a passing play the quarterback throws the ball high. Receiver jumps in the air to catch the ball. While in the air, catches the ball. Coming down, still has not touched the field of play, he kicks the pylon. Feet land out of bounds. On the field it was ruled a touchdown, it should have been ruled incomplete pass. That is what they mean that the pylon is out of bounds.

Apparently Mike Gundy thinks a defender should be able to jump out of bounds and touch an offensive player running down the sideline to get him down

My favorite rule is that on a kickoff that goes close to out of bounds, the receiving player can touch out of bounds, stretch and grab the ball begore it goes into the end zone, and it’s a penalty on the offense.

The receiving team gets the ball on the 40

So I was watching the Finebaum Film room on DVR and On the Mecole Hardman TD where he stepped out of bounds but it wasnt indisputible enough to overturn, he actually contacted Tony Brown while Brown was laying Out of Bounds,Gene Chizik said that their is a rule where if the ball carrier touches a defender who is out of bounds then they are by rule out of bounds also.

Thats a huge blunder by the officials, took what should have been after a penalty 1st and 10 at the Bama 32 and gave UGA a TD.

But I didnt know that was a rule.

Officials blew calls all night both ways. CFP needs to be stricter on who they pick to officiate.

I remember seeing that and was pretty sure that was a rule. But when the refs didn't call it and it didn't get overturned, I assumed I was wrong.

It wouldn't have been a penalty even if he was out of bounds. He caught the ball in bounds clearly, it was on the attempted tackle that his foot hit the Bama defender who was out of bounds, so it would have still been 1st and 10 UGA deep in Bama territory.

If you want to bitch about a missed call, how about that no call on a blatant facemask?

And if you REALLY wanna bitch about refs, this is another good place to start.

I think Mike Gundy just made shit up...there is no way that's a rule. If so, it is one that has never been called in the 1000's of college games I have watched. Either that or he is interpreting it wrong.

For example, you couldn't step on a player that was out of bounds and jump back in bounds and not be out of bounds.

I think he was OOB on the play...but only cause his heel touched.

That being said, B1G refs are still shitty....but not as shitty as Pac-12 refs.

I think Gundy spent alot of time last off-season familiarizing himself with obscure rules

Clear example of a defender laying out of bounds, stretches arm out, hand barely inbound, ball carrier steps on defender's hand (saving the ball carrier from going out of bounds) stays inbounds and scores. Play was reviewed and stand.

Not sure he was correct:

Player In Bounds and Out Of Bounds ARTICLE 15.
a. Out of Bounds
1. A player is out of bounds when any part of his body touches anything other than another player or a game official on or outside a boundary line.
2. An out-of-bounds player who becomes airborne remains out of bounds until he touches the ground in bounds without simultaneously being out of bounds. b. In Bounds 1. An inbounds player is a player who is not out of bounds. 2. An inbounds player who becomes airborne remains in bounds until he is out of bounds.

And if you REALLY wanna bitch about refs, this is another good place to start.

This should answer his faux beef.

Yes!! You don't mess with your boy's woman, even if she's an ex! That's out of bounds.

Almost as bad as missing a false start by the outside WR that was within 5 yards of the ref standing on the LOS. Play ended up tying the game

Alabama won the game but get the hell outta here with they missed calls both ways. They blew calls against Georgia that probably would have put the game out of reach before halftime. They blew the blocked punt which would have given Georgia the ball again in the red zone after they already had a lead. they blew the facemask call with gave the ball back when Georgia should have kept its drive going and to add insult to injury the called the face mask against Georgia when the runner was already out of bounds. Now I really didn't an don't care who won but as a neutral observer the calls missed against georgia were critical and Alabama wasn't hurt by any call against them.

That's not a good angle really, the camera is behind the line of scrimmage a little, not straight down the line.

Not saying it wasn't a bad call, but the defender even thought he was offsides.

It was a false start, if they make the correct call we should have been rekicking anyways. I think they called it offsides because the UGA player started running toward the LOS and 2 of our guys reacted.

I never said a word about the refs until this thread was made, and wouldn't have at all if I didn't see a Bama fan incorrectly interpreting a rule and insinuating a bad call hurt Bama.

I thought he was more asking about the rule because Gundy said something in the film room broadcast. I think Gundy was wrong however.

But I don't see where it really matters, he steps out of bounds at one point anyway even without the rule. But that's football.

There's bad calls all the way around. Hardman stepped out before breaking away and scoring the TD, and I remember at least least two PIs we got away with.

I tend to not bitch about refs. The way I see it is if you're in position for a bad call to effect the outcome, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Yeah only the blatant ones piss me off. If I can see a reasonable reason why a ref didn't call something, I'm fine with it.
