so it seems to be the thing to do with your home now.

I have a Nest and a couple Echos and a Sengled Hub with my outside lights hooked up to it...and a Roomba, I suppose.

I don't plan on doing much more than that.

I got my mom a Samsung SmartThings hub for Christmas. She already has a Nest, a Ring, and a Google Home. I am working on upgrading her dimmer switches and all that. It's a lot of work and I am not a fan of electrical shit, but it's what she wants.

Anyone else have anything smart in their homes?

I've never understood the need for a Nest. Though I work at home and want my house at the same temperature all the time. My thermostat is even programmable, but I just have it hold the same temp all the time.

I have a ring, a couple echos and a few smart plugs. I'm considering replacing all my flood lights with ring lights, but just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

The other thing I'm looking into is a new jackshaft garage door opener that I can control and monitor with my phone: Elite Series 8500 | Garage Door Openers | LiftMaster
Plus it gets rid of the middle chain drive making it easier to put a golf simulator in my garage.

I am a little worried about putting in anything smart that allows access to my house, like a garage door opener or a smart lock on the front door.

I love my Nest. When we were coming back from Mexico in May, we landed to some cold ass weather in MD and of course I hadn't left the heat on. So on the drive back from the airport, I was able to go and turn the heat on so that house was nice and cozy for us when we got there.

when we go on vacation our cats are still here, so the house never gets below 67 or above 72. Maybe I'm just not the target audience for a Nest.

As far as having internet connected locks to my house... I'm under no misconception that a lock is keeping somebody from robbing me if they really want to. Its really about me being able to see on an app that I remembered to shut the garage door and close it if I forgot.

there have been a couple times where I wish I had that. Instead, I get 5 minutes away from the house and think about whether I closed the garage or not.

What I need is the neighbor kid's phone number so I can have him close it if I forgot.

Me. That’s why I don’t want to let google or amazon hot mike my house. A few years from now, some would be politician is going to get derailed by Alexa.

Not a ton...we have about half dz of those smart outlets with lamps plugged in with on/off control...pre-hub, it wasn't that great...now with the hub, they are more stable now. I'd like to expand my outdoor lighting at some point, but I'm not there yet.
