I have this feeling that Seattle's FO will once again ignore the OL in the coming off-season.

They haven't ignored it, they just haven't put the financial resources into it like they've put into the defense and the skill players. They've spent quite a few early round picks on offensive linemen and made trades for offensive linemen, but between injuries and their cap situation being what it is, they haven't put much money into it.

Not that putting a bunch of money into the offensive line automatically makes for a good offensive line. Just look at our Super Bowl championship year for a good example. We had the highest paid offensive line in the league that year, but when you take into account how bad that line was, including on the penalty front, you can start to see why the team decided that if they were going to have a bad offensive line either way, they might as well invest in keeping the strongest parts of the team strong. They didn't have to look very far to see that paying a group of players very little didn't necessarily mean that the group would be bad. The defense and Wilson, up to that point, were some of the lowest paid players on the team and they excelled. I'm sure they hoped they could get the same result out of their offensive linemen once they decided to put a big chunk of money towards rewarding that defense and rewarding Wilson for their play when they weren't making very much. It just hasn't worked out very well.

There's also a reason why the flaws in the offensive line are so much easier to see now. Before, the flaws were there but could be overlooked thanks to Marshawn Lynch making them look better than they were. Now that he's not here anymore, the running game has suffered for it and the offensive line's issues have become more exposed. I'm not saying that the offensive line is fine or that they shouldn't keep using resources to try to improve it, but I think it would help quite a bit if they were able to find a running back or a pair of running backs capable of doing what Lynch did for the offensive line when he was here. Whether anyone in our current group can be that guy or one of those guys next year remains to be seen. I hope one or two of them can. It'd be easier on next year's cap if they didn't have to look outside the organization to fill the spot(s).

i get what you are trying to say because of how LITTLE they pay their oline. The thing is these guys don't DESERVE to be payed more and they have spent a ton of resources on the oline. What they need to do is instead of always failing to either find or COACH UP the talent is to actually bring in someone that doesn't have a 5+ Year track record of NOT developing talent if you get my meaning.

Seattle looks to be "that team" that might be holding onto players and coaches 1 to 2 years to long. Most might say "WOW this teams fall from greatness was fast" nope it's been a steady decline that was noticeable if you removed your Bias colored glasses.

Traded for Duane Brown. Signed Joeckel for nearly $8M a year. Re-signed Britt to a $27M extension. 2016 first round pick on Ifedi. Signed or traded for 3 other linemen this off-season. If they do more than that in order to avoid "ignoring" the OL, they'll be accused of overpaying.

I do agree that we need a running game but I don't see a Barry Sanders clone coming anytime soon. Our Oline run blocking has been as bad as the pass blocking. Our RB's need to stay healthy and on the field but the line has to block and create space. That also requires a TE that can set the edge. And guys that can block without grabbing jerseys and costing us in down and distance every 3rd snap.
This team can't punch other teams in the mouth at the goal line. You need to be able to run the ball for 1 lousy yard at 1st and goal but these guys get absolutely no push off the ball. Our team isn't the only one with bad line play but with zero threat of the run, teams just key on RW. Doesn't matter how much magic Russ has, he can't continue like this. The brain trust needs to address that or we will see Russell's career cut short and that would be a crying shame. Not just for us but for the league as a whole. Much like the Packers when AR is not able to play. Hate the team but admire and respect the player and his talent.

The one thing I DO agree with the Snug-man on is that the team IS going to transition to Wilson being the focal point. With the right balance we can surround Russ with enough talent to be annoyingly consistent year in and year out, and still field a pretty decent D. We just aren't going to see them build another vet heavy powerhouse D.

IDK. Maybe the offense transition to Wilson, but Pete is going to continue trying to have a powerful defense IMO.

Is he going to ignore the D and go full Saints (pre 2017)? No. But they ARE going to spend more on the O-line, and that has to come from (at least in big part) the D.

Much easier to repair with finding the RB and the O will run better.

I think we have solid RB's in Davis and Mckissic. These two can be dangerous if the o-line can give them proper running lanes. I don't have a problem adding another RB through the draft but I wouldn't select one with our first pick.

Yeah the Hawks have had a HISTORICAL defense that will go down as one of the best EVER. Seeing that again is not likely so expect a drop off on defense. I am glad i got to see it though and it will for ever be remember with the likes of the 85 Bears.

Everyone talks about the offense sucking but the truth of the matter is, if we'd had a FG kicker that could kick a FG, we'd have two more wins on the board... We'd be 11-4 right now going into this weekend... Point is, as badly as some of you have mentioned our offense sucking, we'd be 11-4 if we had a FG kicker make some FG's... This team never gave up this season w/ all the injuries they've endured...

Its needs to happen faster or we are staring at a couple throw away seasons. This season is basically a throw away at this point

Meh. Mr. Hyperbole.

AGAIN, Wilson gives the team to always be able to just re-tool and not do a full rebuild. See: this years Saints. Hit on a couple of draft picks, have existing draft picks continue to mature (Reed etc), and boom, back in business.

This season is 'basically' a throw away, with us still being eligible for the playoffs? I guess we have different definitions of 'throw away.'

Yep, when you have a top 5 NFL QB, it's much easier to reset, tweak a few things and get the ball rolling again... A RT and a very good RB would change things in a heartbeat in regards to the offense... The Saints is a good example... They have a top 5 QB and they add a few players and boom.... They're back in biz as you stated... Kamara made all the difference in the world for that offense...

On the flipside, how many years now have the Cowboys been hitting the reset button, changes coaches, etc since the late 90's? Quite a bit with no success... Where has that gotten them?

Hope the FO can hit in the draft with an NFL ready FG kicker with a solid leg.
