Did you know that Nebraska played in the Major College Bowl Game with the
least attendance all time?

You did win the game though.

You beat Miami 36-34 at the 1962 Gotham Bowl in front of 6,000 fans.

Forget, exactly what stadium it was played in. I believe it was Yankee Stadium,
but it may have been the Polo Grounds.

btw...The capacity of the Camellia Bowl is 25K. The Capacity of the Frisco Bowl is 20,500.

Those 10,000/15,000 empty seats don't look near as bad as the 50K empty seats in Brimingham

Those numbers are such bullshit.
Maybe tickets sold or something, but I watched some of those and they had a few thousand people there.

No way the Hawaii bowl had 20k. Maybe 2k. Stands were empty.

I agree. They slip up and show the stands every now and then and there is no way those attendance numbers are correct in some of these games.

None of those games exceeded 5K in actual seats. None. And most came nowhere close to 5K.

Is this a roundabout way of whining about being able to watch football at pretty much any time between December 20 and January 1?

We all know the attendance numbers are bogus.

I am pretty sure attendance includes, the band, the concession people, the coaches, the cheerleaders, the mascots, the players, the TV crew, the press credentials, the City Government people in attendance, the Sponsors people in attendance.

It also includes free tickets given away.

I like calling the one bowl the Beth Mowens Gasparilla Bowl. it is actually the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, but it is just too close to Beth Mowens for me.

Here is some food for thought

Bowl game executive pay soaring around $1 million

The pay for Bowl Game Executives are fricking TAX EXEMPT!!

In 1991, the University of Michigan’s creative financing was to use money from a National Science Foundation research grant to pay the bowl bills. The feds found out, and the Wolverines got penalized—so it’s not a good model for other colleges to imitate.

Too many bowl games.

Honestly, that really doesn't have anything to do with attendance.

If the same people were required to attend all the games it would matter, but it is highly
doubtful that any one person attends two different bowl games in two different cities.

The before Christmas Bowls will always struggle for attendance because folks are Christmas
shopping and preparing for Christmas. Very few are gonna venture far away from home
before Christmas.

Now for the folks in the North, taking a winter vacation...those people are pulling out
on the morning of the 26th. You can set your clock in Florida on Christmas Day.
Traffic is heavy on Christmas eve with folks shopping and visiting...but those are the
locals. On the 26th every major road turns into a parking lot as Florida begins its two
week winter tourist season that is swelled by 5 Major Bowl Games.

On the 2nd of January...Good Luck trying to make any time on I-75 Northbound. It'll
be bumper-to-bumper from the Turnpike/I-75 ramp in Wildwood all the way to Valdosta.
You've got all the vacationers and all the bowl traffic headed home.

Wisconsin folks headed for Miami, Michigan for Tampa, LSU for Orlando, South Carolina
for Tampa (they'll use I-95 to I-4) Notre Dame folks to Orlando. VPI folks to Orlando
that's mainly I-95-I-4. (Okla St will probably fly). Louisville crowd to Jax and Miss St
to Jax (I-10). UofL is I-75 to I-10.

Central Florida always gets their fair share of Gator and Orange Bowl fans who only head
to their bowl destination a day or two before. Nothing to do in Jax but drink, so if you're
bringing your family you head to Orlando first. Orange Bowl fans stop before heading on to
Miami.

You can go to the Magic Kingdom or Disney Springs and count sweat shirts and know which
teams have brought the most fans.

Well I don't know about you, but I sure in hell wouldn't want to go see a couple of 6-6 teams play in a bowl game. Too many bowl games with teams with 6-6 and 7-5 records.

Aw come on OT. Us old farts have to get with the times man.

Don't you know all these bowls for 6-6 teams are needed to meet the "everyone deserves a trophy" mentality many of these kids grew up with. Hell, these 41 bowls are even cutting it for that group. Too many teams are being left out of the bowl experience.

My Miners deserve a bowl too! Even though they didn't win one single game...they showed up to play all of 'em. They should get rewarded with a bowl game...aka "a trophy".

Yep!

Personally, I'd be embarrassed (as a team), to be 6-6 and playing in a Bowl game. I mean, " YAY! We're playing in the 'Beth Mowens Bowl' game! YIPPEEEEE!!!". Yep! Everybody's impressed now... :tsk:

AND listening to those announcers try to 'spin' some positive stuff about those 6-6 teams. SHEESH.... :L

I love watching GOOD college football, but I'm not that much of a diehard fan wanting to suffer thru these usually b-o-r-r-i-n-g games. Yeah, I know... Every now & then there are some very good watchable "Toilet Bowl" games, but I haven't seen too many over the (zillion bowl games) era.

BUT... Good Luck to these teams anyway...

Yeah 6-6 teams don't have much to celebrate. But those players get to go have some fun and for a lot of them, it's the last time they will ever play football ever again.

You don't know if some teams or players really want to be there and the evidence is my fucking terrible pickems performance.

That depends on circumstances.

Many, many, many years ago...I would usually go to the Tangerine Bowl game whether
FSU was playing or not. It was close by and it was a football game.

I watched all levels played there. I remember watching West Chester St play Morgan St
there. Also watched Tampa end Kent State's long winning streak there and then Miami of
Ohio win 3 straight vs Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. The Florida game was played in
G-Ville because the T-Bowl was being enlarged.

One of FSU's Orange Bowl years, I went to a T-Bowl game the week before when LSU faced
Wake Forest. To me it was always something to do extra over the Holidays, it was close by
(25 miles) and it was a football game. I just enjoyed going.
