is because of the NFL draft, almost every draft since Wilsons draft the Hawks management have not drafted a Pro Bowl quality player aside from Tyler Lockett being a kick returner. The jury is still out on the 2017 draft but from the looks of it Mcdowell will be a bust aside from Pocic, Jones, and Griffin everyone else will probably be busts

not to mention the failed percy harvin experiment. you cant go this many drafts and get it wrong and expect to stay around winning games literally every player in the LOB has gone through a major injury along with cliff avril. I dont know if we just got lucky from the 2010-12 drafts but we need to hit on these drafts before this team is completely destroyed and its Russell wilson literally carrying the offense and defense.

Its easy to look back on it because its the past but that 2013 draft stings trading away our #1 pick for Harvin and the Vikings used it on Xavier Rhoades and two picks later Deandre Hopkins was selected by the Texans.

That tends to happen when you spend a while picking at the back end of the draft. I doubt Green Bay's draft list would look much better.

Another factor would be the money they have had to pay their staters on defense and, most of all, Russell Wilson. Probably amounts to close to 40 million they were able to spend on depth just a few years ago. Now, they suffer some injuries, and don't have the players behind their starters that can preform like they used to.

So are you saying it's Schneider's fault?

Wow a Seahawk fan agreeing with me. I posted about how the Seattle front office has done a bad job in drafting in the last several years during last years NFL season. They did hit the jackpot like 5 or 6 years ago but thhose guys are over the hill now and are over paid. Glad to see someone else see's what actually has happened. Would be fun to go search for that posting I had on this subject to see how well it matches up with this post but dont really have the time for that.

I found all the draft messages I posted in the Seahawk/Packer smack talk thread that is now up on the main NFL board. It starts on page 50 and post 987

Fall from grace? They make the playoffs this year if they just sign Hauschka and even one of Sherman, Kam, Carson, or Avril isn't out for the year.

Today's game was an ass kicking, but let's not pretend they just went 4-12. They're still technically in the playoff race even with all the injuries.

Well, things could be worse. As a Rams fan, we have had to put up with the worst owner in sports, with the worst Chief of football operations (Demoff) and a terrible GM in Snead. Really, Demoff kept Fisher and his utterly incompetent staff around for several years longer than they belonged. Why? Demoff's dad was Fisher's agent. Under Demoff's leadership, the Rams have won less than 1/3 of their games before this year.

Yeah, we haven’t hit in the draft the last several years, but I also think putting a rookie D coach at the helm of our veteran D that still had elite potential was a mistake ... You could see a definite drop off in our defense right away... Looking back we also shoulda kept Golden Tate, that dude was a workhorse for us, reminded me of Hines Ward... We kept Percy instead of him and then we dumped Percy anyway ...

When Lambeau Leg agrees with you about the Seahawks you really need to rethink your argument.

Do you guys think that Pete Carroll might be a victim of his own success in that he feels he can plug any athlete into his system and have success? I see the same attribute with Belichick but he seems to be able to get away with it a little more often.

I think Bill Belichick knows EXACTLY what players he needs to draft or sign to fit his scheme I dont think he thinks any player can fit his system. I also feel that each week the preparing for games instead of making themselves better they look at their opponent and they can pin point different ways to attack them thats why it seems like every other week its a new name patriots player having a good game.

I kinda felt that Tate wanted to leave and take more money elsewhere it wasnt like we didnt give him any offers he turned down what we offered him and he took the bigger contract in Detroit if I remember right. but yeah if we parted ways with Harvin we could have offered more to him and he probably would have stayed. I liked him I think he was the only seahawk to leave the team and have a huge impact

we went from dominating the league to coming second in the division handing on to dear life for a wild card spot. I wasnt impressed with this team even before the injuries that loss to the Titans where the D gave up all those points on the ground. Then giving up 38 points at home to the Texans tells me that this team is just not Super Bowl ready. There is a HUGE gap between this defense and the 2014 defense

We've won double digit games for the past 5 years and may do that again despite having our entire defense get injured. What exactly do you expect?

Draft is one major reason for the current struggles of the Hawks. Injuries are hurting the team more because the depth isn't strong due to not great drafting and whiffing the past couple of years in the draft is starting to catch up with them.

Trades are another part that's hurt them because not only are you not drafting well you're giving away valuable picks for guys bringing in questionable returns. Traded for Sheldon and Duane to win now but you lost a 2018 2nd and 3rd rounder along with a 2019 2nd rounder. That's 3 potential starters you could have on rookie contracts instead you have to extend Sheldon or risk losing him and Duane is in the twilight of his career with one year left on his deal. And that's not counting the Harvin and Graham trades that cost a couple of 1st rounders and a 3rd rounder.

The offensive line has been a travesty and for a team that wants to run the ball, control the clock, and play good defense I've never understood why in the world you would neglect the offensive line. QB is the most important position in the game but the offensive line is the most important unit and it's not a unit you fill with scraps and projects at.

And finally, the Hawks have been building the team too much around defense when if you have a franchise QB you build it more around offense especially when the strength of the coaching staff is on the defensive side. If you look at the Pats and Steelers they started off as strong defensive teams with Brady and Ben in game manager roles and now they are feared far more for the offenses than defenses. Maintaining defensive dominance is far tougher because it requires multiple positions to keep up that domination and it's tough to maintain and replace those pieces. Whereas on offense the QB has such an impact on the offense you can build and maintain a great offense far easier and longer.

That 2012ish to 2015ish era of the Seahawks is dead and while the window isn't shut because you have a franchise QB they need to retool and start building around him. Because the division is only going to get tougher as the Rams are starting to hit their peak, 9ers look like they found their franchise QB and could be dangerous within the next couple of years, and if the Cards every find a franchise guy of their own they'll be a dangerous team as well.

Jikkle is right, they didnt do what was needed to build around wilson so that they would be ready to transition to an O dominant team.

We dont have the playera and we dont have the scheme.

It's not that they didn't do what was needed, they just whiffed on the players they drafted... They've drafted 11 OL since 2013... Since '14, they drafted 6 OL in the first 4 rounds so it's not like they didn't try to fill a need... Letting Okung go was probably another mistake Schneider had made during that time...
