Flames prospect Matthew Phillips has 24 points in 10 games for the Victoria Royals. Only problem is he's smaller than Johnny Hockey.

Canucks' Kole Lind making waves as well.
24 points (8 goals 14 assists) in 12 games
Kelowna has scored 46 goals, Kole has been in on more than half of them

this was the guy who Benning asked "how is he still available?" in the 2nd round

Did you guys know that Dan Tencer (the former Edmonton Journal media hack) is now the director of scouting for the Saskatoon Blades? In case you're wondering, the Blades are terrible again this season.

Former NHLer Stephen Peat is having a tough time and his dad doesn't have kind words for the WHL...

Walter Peat says his son was known for having an ear-to-ear smile whenever he was playing hockey. But during his second year in the NHL, the smile started the fade. Peat says the NHL has not supported his son through this difficult part of his life.

"The NHL, they just take, take, take," he said.

"You got a player who was your employee, you'd think they'd jump to the forefront and say, "What do you need?'"

Walter Peat is particularly critical of the major junior Western Hockey League, saying the lack of pay and safety considerations for child players is objectionable.

"They get paid $300 to $400 a month for cash ... plus room and board, and these owners ... are making money hand over fist," he said.

"I would suggest ... it's borderline child slavery. [The owners] are condoning long-term and, possibly, fatal injuries to players. "

'He's just a very different person': Dad of ex-NHL player Stephen Peat says his son is homeless and could die

Julian will be pleased

The three first rounders in the Veleno deal are from Gatineau (2018), Blainville (2019) and Drummondville (2020) which means the Sea Dogs may end up with two lottery picks in the Q draft this season. Makes a rebuild quicker.

Bitter-sweet but definitely the right move. Biggest move in team history. He was one of the bright spots to watch during year 1 of this rebuild and the 2nd half of the season will be long without him, but in the long-run it will pay off big time.

Good for Veleno too. His draft ranking has been dropping this year. He got off to a slow start but has been pretty hot lately and has pretty much been a point a game player on an otherwise pretty weak team. I expect him to average close to 2 points a game in Drummondville.

He played a good role in his first 2 season here on contending teams but he really wasn't the right age for the Sea Dogs cycle to build around him.

I'm actually pretty surprised that with guys like Brule, Gallagher and Kane over the years no one on the Giants has ever hit 50 in a season. Well for just a little bit longer anyway.
