Hero challenge.
Only 18 players. I’m sure he would take dead last if his body felt great after the week.

Should be interesting. Not only the Tiger fans will be rooting for him, but those trying to come back from back surgery.

We shall see.

The double standard that goes on here is just insane.

Leading up to this Tiger played golf with Donald Trump. Nobody said a word.

But what happen when Rory played with Trump early this year? Every major news outlet had painted it as something that you should apologize for.

Ah - who cares. Can we just for once not mix sports and politics. When I watch sports I don't want to hear about Trump (or any politician) - period. Just play the damn game.

This tourney with Tiger is exciting. Either he keeps playing well & that is fun or perhaps he has another meltdown - fun to keep up with regardless & provides insight regardless of your view of him.

NP - not really directed at you - more at the media. We are in an era where sports coverage seems to be more about what occurs off the field or what is in a given tweet rather than what actually occurs on the field of play. For this tourney having Tiger participate provides some excitement (whether you like or hate him) for an event that would be ignored otherwise.

I watched a couple of handful of the holes over the 4 days...it was good to see Tiger back out there, not wincing after every other swing...showed himself well I thought.

Yea, it kills me to say it but he did look good. Really surprised there was not a big collapse since he is not used to playing all 4 rounds.

That said, I hope we are all out of excuses now. He should at the very least play one tournament a month leading up to the Masters. The Farmers, Waste management, Honda, Arnold Palmer and a couple of WGC ..plenty of tournaments to play.

Anything less than 3 before the Masters and you will have to question is this a comeback or PR campaign.

Agree. I also believe that the whole DUI fiasco was very humbling for Tiger so I believe that he sees things a bit differently now & also likely realizes that time is running out on him & he also needs to just enjoy whatever comes his way. I also don't believe that the coverage was over the top for Tiger (like it has been in the past) & they showed all golfers (for the live coverage - not for outlets like ESPN that still cover him too much).

Excuses...I'm not sure he needs to prove anything at this point Mac. He's a lock HOF, he's not going to catch Jack, if he wants it he'll get a shot to captain a RC team. I think anyone that has watched the peak and now the valley of Woods' career has to understand his best days in golf are behind him. Yeah if this comeback fails or falls short of him winning again, all it means to me...father time got to Tiger a little earlier than some others in this sport.

I do agree with you...if he tees it up only 2 or 3 times before the Masters...we could call it a PR move, because I don't think even he could expect to contend in a major with only 2 or 3 tournaments under his belt.

Let me explain what I meant by that.

Without question, Tiger owes us nothing nor does he need to prove anything to anybody.
We all understand that sooner or later your skills diminish.

But that is not what Tiger and his enablers are selling us. Tiger is still Tiger but it's the injuries holding him back. This is what they want us to believe.
The truth is all of the surgeries just don't add up to everything that has been going on with Tiger.

IMO, Tiger is trying to avoid being an average golfer on tour. And that is why he dropped out of that tournament
a day or 2 before the event last year after being out for months. He is mortified of playing like crap on the tour.

He goes overseas plays badly for a round or so and quits ....and they blame the long plane ride for it.
And than out of nowhere, he needs another surgery after saying for weeks he was pain free ..just like he is doing now.

So it's not no more excuses for not winning, but for not playing. Tiger could go out there and play like crap and I would have nothing to say because that is the final payment of respect you pay to the golf Gods. In the end they always win. But Tiger up to this point is trying to avoid that last payment to the golf Gods. And that is sad & disrespectful because he had beaten the golf Gods so badly at their own game.

I'm old enough to have seen Chamberlin, but I missed his prime...I remember my older cousins talking this guy up like he could walk on water. At 11-12 y/o I watched a lumbering Wilt Chamberlin as a Laker thinking I must be watching a different player.

From that angle I can see Tiger not wanting to appear "normal" to a lot of these kids that missed the Tiger in his prime. In terms of the Tiger jock hangers that think he's going to turn back the clock...they're dillusional and can easily be stoked by the media.

I think if you're the player and injury has cut into your peak, maybe you think you can still do it at a high level if you were healthy, but Tiger has been down this road several times.

My general thought on Tiger and these come back attempts...I don't blame him for continuing the effort, in golf years, he's not out to pasture yet, but the media is always going to act like it's 2002 when Tiger is in the field. So...I guess when he flops they need a reason? Not ready to say I've just lost it...normally when the putter goes, they hang it up.

I think that there is merit to what you are stating, but I believe that was true a few years ago more then it is at the current time. I believe that two factors make this a bit different at the current time. First of all I truly believe that the DUI arrest was like a huge slap in the face to Tiger & was extremely humbling. Forget about Majors and PGA tour wins - I believe that Tiger realizes that there is a lot more to his life at this time, and I would have to think that he would not go crazy if he didn't win another tourney. I don't believe that would have been true a few years ago.

Secondly - his kids are now growing up & I believe that they are a huge priority in his life. This also is likely to change his perspective on life & how he approaches the game of golf. I could be wrong on all of this - time will tell.

He played decently but I doubt he'll ever win another major championship.

I tend to agree, but if there is one he might win again, it would be Augusta. Older players with course knowledge can hang around and get to the weekend in the hunt and you never know. Sergio probably thought he'd never win a major...Cabrera in '09?

Tiger has an extensive injury history that includes four back surgeries so he may never be the same dominant player again.

I fixed that for ya. Now I agree!...lol

No question the dominant Tiger of old is gone.

But I think that's just it...you don't have to be dominant to win at Augusta.
