The only requirements to appear on the SF Giants Wall of Fame are that you spent 9 years with the club or 5 years with at least one All-Star game appearance.

It should be renamed the Wall of Duration or the Wall of Endurance if that is the case.

The Giants are set to add Marvin Benard and Jason Schmidt to the Giants Wall of Fame. Schmidt I can see because he became a dominant pitcher while playing for the team. But Benard? Really? C'mon now. Aside from a game-winning HR against the Bums in July 2000, Benard was pretty much average in all aspects of the game.

Yea, that wall is pretty lame. The fact that they put up these sad qualifications to get on was such a sack-less move.

AND...

22 is still a live jersey number. WTF??

And to think most of us were decrying the Benard contract as Sabean's worst move ever.....little did we know.

Benard really?

At least Johnny "Boo" LeMaster was an excellent defender at SS. It's also a shame they left off NY Giants legends, forgetting about the Giants rich history.

My criteria would be any Hall of Fame player that played more then 3 seasons with the SF or NY Giants/Gothems. I would also have plaques listing all players/managers for teams that won NL Pennants or WS titles. Players that won multiple All Star bids and/or MVP's.

Uh, Filo...

:behindsofa:

They're standing behind me aren't they?

;)

EDIT: What a shitty criteria. Sure, bring them back to the stadium and have a "where are they now" gig.....but Wall of Fame???

Rueter played over nine seasons with The Giants. You think he makes it?

(loved that guy, but his ERA was under 4 for only three of those nine seasons)

Is there any doubt that Rowand and Zito will be on there someday?

I never minded Marvin Bernard. I knew we had to deal with him for like, 2-3 at bats and then he'd be down in the minor leagues. William Van Landingham - rofl, Filo... Now THAT just brings a new definition of torture.

Is Stan Javier on that wall?

King of the quality start! 6 innings, 3 ernies (4.50 era)

Not that bad considering the steroid era

Well he's more deserving than Marvin Benard!

Plus as mentioned ERA was inflated during those years he won 15 games with an ERA over 5 in 99! Wow what an embarrassment to statistics and records that era was.

This is the logical extension of our politically correct culture. Everyone is OK, everyone deserves a reward, everyone is deserving of the Wall of Fame.

Reuter will be there...the orgainization seems to love the guy. I really have a hard time understanding why Benard made it first.

Woody's already on the Wall. He was a member of the inaugural class of inductees in 2010.

(T)estes is already there.

So maybe it should be called the 'Wall of Guys Who Played With The Giants For 3+ Years and Had at Least One Good One"?
