The preseason college basketball poll is out right now! ...But as we all know, all that's good for is to tell us that the season will be starting soon (In 4 more days, to be exact).

Now, the early part of the CBB season DOES have some important points to it. This is where we get our first looks at the new "One-and-done" players, huge resume-building games specially designed to build cases for the NCAA's, and yes, a few "Whoopsie" games ("Whoopsie" games are losses that COULD ruin a team's NCAA chances).

From now until about January 3rd, this will be our place to comment on the big early-matchups, holiday tournaments, and Louisville's slow slide into oblivion!

Friday, November 11th

With the season starting tomorrow, I guess it's time for me to start my habit of trimming away all the fat from a CBB slate, and giving you guys the REAL good stuff.

Now a little warning before I begin: Since we'll all be learning what our favorite teams have for the first 8 weeks of the season, it's kinda pointless to jump to conclusions right now. Best to just turn off our brains and just enjoy the stellar early-season matchups. So if my posts sound a little robotic from now 'till January, that's why.
Okay! Here's what to watch on the first day of the CBB season (All times are Eastern):
"Drop-everything" games are highlighted in bold

Savannah State @ Cincinnati [at BB&T Arena in Kentucky] (12:00) (This year, Cincinnati will play all of it's home games at Northern Kentucky's home arena due to renovations being made to Fifth Third Arena)
Northern Iowa @ North Carolina (7:00) (The unveiling of UNC's latest national title banner.)
Indiana State @ Indiana (7:00) (Archie Miller's debut as Indiana coach.)
Colgate @ UConn (7:00) (...Just know that last year, UConn started their season by losing to Wagner and they never recovered.)
North Florida @ Michigan State (8:00)
Loyola-Maryland @ Northwestern (8:30) (This is the first time EVER that Northwestern will enter the season ranked. My, how times have changed.)
Iowa State @ Missouri (9:00)
Georgia Tech vs. UCLA [From Shanghai, China] (11:30)

Armed Forces Classic [From Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany]:
Game of the Day: Texas A&M vs. West Virginia (6:00)

Veterans Classic [From Annapolis, MD]:
Memphis vs. Alabama (6:30)
Pittsburgh vs. Navy (Around 9:00)

Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic [From Honolulu, HI]:
Troy vs. North Dakota (9:30)
Arkansas Pine-Bluff vs. Hawaii (Around 12 A.M.)

Should be a fun season, be interesting to see what teams step up this year, which ones surprise and which ones disappoint.

11/10 recap

Georgia Tech vs. UCLA - Box Score - November 10, 2017 - ESPN

Not a bad win for UCLA last night, considering what happened beforehand. And by the way, I'm not gonna freak out over the slow starts by Kentucky, or Northwestern, or Villanova. 'Kay?
Here's what else happened yesterday:

Texas A&M over West Virginia 88-65 (Rallying from a large deficit to win in Germany... Not bad, Aggies!)
Lamar over Tulsa 74-67 (Hey! Our first "Whoopsie" loss of the season!)
Alabama over Memphis 82-70
Indiana State upsets Indiana 90-69
(Hmmm... Should I worry about this loss, guys?)
Dayton over Ball State 78-77
Charleston over Siena 68-60 in OT
Georgia Southern upsets Wake Forest 85-83 (Whoopsie)
Missouri over Iowa State 74-59 (But Porter's injury... Man, that's a shame.)
Monmouth over Bucknell 79-78
Navy over Pittsburgh 71-62 (Eek! ...Maybe Pittsburgh really WILL be the bottom-feeder team in the ACC this season.)
UC-Riverside upsets California 74-66 (Whoopsie)

Rainbow Classic:
Hawaii over Arkansas Pine-Bluff 82-70
North Dakota over Troy 83-80

November 11th and 12th

Okay... After an intriguing day yesterday, things will slow down a bit this weekend. And with a LOT of college football action happening, will ANYBODY be watching college basketball? Let's look at the weekend slate and see (All times are Eastern):

Today:
Illinois State @ Florida Gulf-Coast (1:00)
Game of the Day: Notre Dame @ DePaul (4:00)
Utah Valley @ Duke (7:00)
Portland State @ Portland (10:00)

Tomorrow:
Jacksonville @ Georgetown (12:00) (Patrick Ewing's BIG debut as head coach of his alma-mater)
Monmouth @ Seton Hall (1:30)
George Mason @ Louisville (2:00)
Game of the Day: UMass @ Harvard (2:00)
Vermont @ Kentucky (3:30)
Navy @ Miami (4:00)
Eastern Washington @ Washington (8:00)

Hmmm... There's a couple of offerings, but maybe we should wait 'till Monday. That's when the REAL good stuff begins!

11/11 and 11/12 recap

People on this thread have been a little chirpy so far this season... and nothing had happened yet! Wait... Let me check the last 2 days real quick:

Saturday:
Notre Dame over DePaul 72-58
Ouachita Baptist upsets Arkansas Little-Rock 81-79 (In case you don't know, Ouachita is a Division II school. Can you believe that Little-Rock were winning NCAA Tourney games just a few years ago?)
Lehigh over Marist 84-76 in OT
Portland State over Portland 80-75

Sunday:
Kentucky over Vermont 73-69
(Looking slow against Utah Valley, I can understand; Kentucky's a young team. But only winning by 4 points against Vermont? With [4]Kansas on the horizon? Maybe it's time to start worrying...)
Louisville over George Mason 72-61
Seton Hall over Monmouth 75-65
Harvard over UMass 70-67 in OT
Washington State over Texas Southern 86-84 in OT (Almost a "Whoopsie" for Wazzu)
Le Tourneau upsets Northwestern State 99-84 (Le Tourneau is a Division III school, in case you're wondering.)

...Nope. Nothing too extreme to see here. But that'll all change soon...

Central Michigan @ Michigan (7:00)
CSU-Bakersfield @ Georgia Southern (7:30)
Western Michigan @ South Carolina (8:00)
Middle Tennessee @ Murray State (8:00)

Tuesday, November 14th (minus the Champions Classic)

You CBB fans are probably already pretty psyched about the Champions Classic, so I won't bore you with it again. Instead, let me show you the games that you can watch tomorrow in the unlikely event things get boring in Chicago (All times are Eastern):

George Washington @ Florida State (7:00)
Lipscomb @ Alabama (8:00)
Arkansas Little-Rock @ Memphis (8:00)
Purdue @ Marquette (8:30)
San Diego State @ Arizona State (9:00)

...And that's about it. But then again, those are ONLY if the Classic gets boring... which I doubt it will. Enjoy the madness in Chicago, folks!

Vermont is a really good mid major team this year. Wouldn't surprise me if this is a top 50 win by the end of the year.

11/13 recap

Vanderbilt vs. Belmont - Box Score - November 13, 2017 - ESPN

Was the above game just an aberration? Or is Vanderbilt just not very good this season? Ah, we'll find out later. Oh, and here's what else happened yesterday:

USC over North Dakota State 75-65
Minnesota over Providence 86-74
Saint Mary's over New Mexico State 92-74
Montana over Pittsburgh 83-78 in OT
La Salle over Penn 75-71 in 2-OT's
Lynchburg over Norfolk State 83-80 (Lynchburg is a Division III school, in case you're wondering.)
Louisiana Tech over Southeast Missouri State 96-95 in OT
Milwaukee upsets Iowa State 74-56 (Whoopsie)
Saint Joseph's over Illinois-Chicago 86-82 in OT
Nevada over Rhode Island 88-81 (Pretty good win for the Wolfpack over a good Atlantic 10 school.)
Wyoming over Oregon State 75-66 (Whoopsie)
Embry-Riddle upsets Northern Arizona 82-70 (Have ANY of you guys heard of Embry-Riddle before this game? 'Cause I haven't.)

Rainbow Classic: Hawaii over Troy 72-67 in OT (And with that, Hawaii starts the season off at 3-0.)
