Michigan States attempt at the winged helmet in 1933 (five years prior to Michigan's first use of the winged helmet in 1938.... Fritz Crisler brought the design from Princeton to Michigan... they were used beginning in 1935 by Princeton).




The Spartans weren't the first to use the winged helmet. The NY Giants used them for two years from 1930-31, and the Chicago Bears used them in 1931-32.

We got two high school mascots similar. Amarillo High School is the Golden Sandstorms (shortened to Sandies). Why the hell would anyone want to honor a sandstorm? I've had enough of those things in my lifetime. Lamesa High School is the Golden Tornadoes.

Ain't nuttin' golden about either one of those things!
