why do people always say this?

yes, there are a lot of good football players in the state- but there are also a lot of teams pulling those players-Oklahoma, a&m, Baylor, TCU, LSU, Okie St, Kansas St, Bama, FSU, OSU, Braska, etc. You can only recruit 25 a year.

Yes, would like to think Texas can get all the best players each year, but that is hard, if not impossible, to do.

So does Texas not have the largest talent pool? Most of those kids grew up Texas fans. Texas has a bigger name than all but Bama and OhSU and os on par with them. They shouldn't be losing any recruits to Baylor, TCU, OkSU amongst others. It's poor recruiting and trying to convert Heisman winning QBs to defense.

I agree with all but texas AM...before the move to sec the aggies were little bros to texas and there really is no reason texas am should be the go to program. Sumlin has done a great job there.

You mean Manziel has done a great job into making people THINK Sumlin has done a great job.

Sumlin has done a great job there..

He took over a roster brimming with NFL talent.
Sherman was a beast in getting NFL talent. He left a fully stocked roster.

Each year Sumlin has been there, the team gets worse and finishes lower in the division as the Sherman players leave.

2015 will tell us a lot about how great Sumlin is as a coach.
He needs to finish better than 5th place or so to feel comfortable in job security.

He's getting top notch recruits too though. Maybe just not that good of a coach(?).

That means the coach is taking the team in the right direction.

I like the direction Dantonio is taking Michigan State, basically the opposite of disappointing (this thread). That dude is having some pretty big time success. I always respected him for what he's been able to do, but after he beat Boise in East Lansing a few years ago, he was very classy about it and very quick to give them credit in his post-game presser. Made me like the guy even more. Straight shooter. Refreshing to see.

Agree with the obvious. However, Sumlin has done well with players that don't fit his scheme. JFF bought him some time and I think that in time Murray > JFF. Can't wait to see this kid develop. His recruiting classes have been really good and one of the things that no one has paid as much attention to was the coaches that he brought in the last couple of months to fix some of the areas that have kept his program from reaching the next level. In a way I'm more excited about the coaching hires than the recruiting class. Coaching and depth would have been the difference between having a 7-5 season and finishing with 10 wins. Can't wait until the season starts!

Actually A&M has 3 National Titles, 17 SWC titles,2 Big 12 South titles three if you count 2010, 1 Big 12 title and A&M could not compete with Texas in recruiting while in the Big 12 since the league was formed cause Texas had the money and the it factor at the time. But since A&M left it's been different A&M is now becoming more of the hot school since Sumlin has taken over.

Aggy has 1 NC and that was won back in '39. Waking Up one day and deciding to add phantom NC's from 90 years ago doesn't count. Also, when the Big 12 was formed, Aggy was the better program.

They saw Alabama had done that in the 1940s so they could do it since they were now SEC.

How about Okie State football? Not sure if they have ever won it all but I know over the years super-rich booster T. Boone Pickens has given his school alotta money & no hardware to really show for it.
