Browns 2nd rounder plus a conditional 5th or something like that. They don't have to trade him (or pretend they don't have to) and teams are desperate for a QB. Even average QB's go for a large amount (Bradford/Smith)

I think the Browns will draft Rosen or Darnold......doubt they trade for a QB.

KC isn't keeping him. He's not going to backup Mahomes and I think everybody knows Mahomes will be the starter next season.
The NFL isn't very good at calling bluffs for the most part when it comes to QB's. They'll definitely get a 2nd round pick out of someone unless he's just a total disaster against the Titans which I really doubt.

They can do both. Or they can pass on the class. Rosen is going to Eli them and Darnold isn't good. That leaves Mayfield, Jackson, and Allen, and then guys like Rudolph after that.

If he wins a SB the Chiefs could get something really nice in return.

I'll laugh when they trade Smith and then Mahomes falls on his face next year.

Smith was great for most of this year. But, it's still Alex Smith, no?

Better than an unknown. How many college QBs are NFL-ready? A team like Cleveland is going to draft a QB and throw him in there, ruining him. Shit, what's going to happen when Mahomes takes a real snap? I don't know.

Smith is a known quantity, and a pretty good one. I would hope, after all Smith has done for KC, that they would at least trade him to a decent team.

Cleveland goes 4-0 in preaseason and then 0-16 in regular season... Great example of preseason not meaning anything...

Cleveland has some nice components to work with outside of the QB position right now... I honestly think they could go 6-10 or 7-9 next year if Smith was their QB... QB is what shot them in the foot almost every game this season... 6 games this year, they lost by 4 pts or less... In the other 10 games, their QB threw 4 TD's / 12 INT's... QB was the main reason they lost by more than 1 score in those games... They need a QB that will take care of the ball...

Browns:

32nd in oDVOA

16th on defense

Get someone who is competent at QB, a draft, FA, and a full season of Josh Gordon and this team could pick up a lot of wins really fast.
People will laugh, but I think the 0-16 Browns are a sleeping giant missing a QB and coaching staff.

""""It’s been a banner year for the former No. 1 overall pick of the San Francisco 49ers. Smith leads the league in passer rating (104.7). He finished the regular season having completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 4,042 yards with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions"""

Why would you be looking to trade someone like that?

Read: The Chiefs are 32nd in DVOA on defense, have a QBotF, and are up against the cap. Chiefs best comp I can think of for this year might be the 1981 Chargers. Tough way to contend when you're relying on brute force offense.

I did say people were going to laugh.

Oh don't worry...I got what you're saying - SF's last 5 games proves it.

As for this whole 'Chiefs are open to trade Smith' shit-story right before a playoff game? It's a great ploy, but I don't think it'll work week after week. Could very well be the same as 'the Pats all hate each other' so the team can galvanize that 'us against the world' mentality.

I'm glad the Chargers were up against it because they gave away Fred Dean to the 49ers in '81 and he was critical to us winning the Super Bowl that year and in '84 as well..

I was just thinking team structure, but interesting footnote.

Off the top of my head, I'd say this Chiefs defense was better than those Chargers, but not anywhere near enough to make up for it offensively. Air Coryell wipe their asses with every team in 2017.
